News and notes from around the interweb:
- How to save money by getting automatic refunds when the prices drop on things you buy
- Amazing business class award availability (and upgrade space) on American’s flights to London which means no fuel surcharges for AAdvantage members.
- Airline spend accounts for 7% of Amex charges so falling airfares are hurting American Express. Combined with higher costs associated with their renewed co-brand partnerships such as with Delta and Starwood, this is hurting earnings.
- Now that flight attendants are increasingly being armed with tablets and other mobile devices, IBM is pitching having them doing inflight rebooking for passengers with missed connections. Airlines already do this through automated systems, and manual intervention for VIPs, but this could still be great customer service. (HT: God Save the Points)
- Bring your own hot sauce
- “We have a new lounge–and you’re not invited” (HT: Joe Brancatelli)
The Hong Kong KAL Lounge will close on 6 October 2015. Instead, Korean Air will move to the newly-opened SkyTeam Exclusive Lounge and continue to serve customers in a more relaxing and pleasant environment.
We regret to inform you that Morning Calm members may not use the SkyTeam Exclusive Lounge. We kindly ask for your understanding.
- After ‘project quality’ (cough) intended to cut $2 billion in expenses, United promises to improve their onboard coffee.
It looks like the first site you linked to is down.
Waitaminute…didn’t United make a big todo about redoing their coffee just a few years ago?
Thanks for the love!
@Doug Swalen they did and it wasn’t good
The IBM Passenger+ initiative is DOA, at least in the USA. While great in concept, every unionized FA would fight this program tooth and nails — resulting in long battles to amend contracts to change work rules.
Union FA Rule #3:
“Let NOTHING and absolutely NO pax come between me rushing through ‘service’ and my US Weekly, People, National Enquirer and/or gossiping loudly in the galley about how miserable this job is and how much I hate management”.
