Hyatt-SLH Hotels Partnership Ends May 15, Hyatt Pivots To Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Hyatt’s partnership with Small Luxury Hotels ends May 15, 2024.

  • Last year Hyatt announced the acquisition of Mrs. and Mrs. Smith, a booking platform of nearly 2,000 premium hotels that previously partnered with IHG One Rewards.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith includes some absolutely insane hotels for instance several Virgin Limited Edition hotels like Moskito Island are part of the platform, including places like the Hamptons and Martha’s Vineyard where it’s tough to use points and there’s even overlap with Aman Resorts though I don’t expect all hotels to eventually participate with Hyatt.

  • That deal put their Small Luxury Hotels partnership in doubt, since SLH is a booking platform for independent high end properties.

  • We learned that the Hyatt partnership would end about a month ago when SLH and Hilton announced a new tie-in.

Now we know details of the Hyatt-SLH wind-down.

  1. Hyatt points and stay credit-earning at SLH Hotels will cease after May 15, 2024
  2. It will no longer be possible to redeem Hyatt points for SLH stays after that
  3. Existing bookings will be honored
  4. However Hyatt benefits on those stays (e.g. breakfast) will not, except where they’re already provided to all guests
  5. Hyatt co-brand cards will continue to earn at SLH Hotels as though they were Hyatts until August 31, 2024

I’ve taken advantage of redemptions at places like Point Grace Resort in Turks and Caicos and Wentworth Mansion in Charleston.

The loss of these options for redemption is disappointing, however Mr. and Mrs. Smith should bring incredibly exciting hotels, too. SLH was less good for paid stays, since Hyatt bookings (booking through Hyatt was required for points and stay credit) were frequently more expensive than booking direct with the property.

The specific Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties that will participate with World of Hyatt, and the ways in which that participation will vary from a Hyatt-branded hotel, haven’t been announced. However Hyatt Chief Commercial Officer Mark Vondrasek has shared that the integration should be stronger with Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties than it had been through their SLH Hotels partnership – indeed he argued that is why they bought (rather than partnered with) the Mr. and Mrs. Smith platform in the first place.

  1. Glad I was able to take advantage of Calala Island while it lasted. Although I feel like I could still do it by bidding on an auction over in the UK.

  2. When will booking on Hilton be available.

Disappointing as I loved my SLH stays. Some were priced the same as booking direct.

  3. Hi Gary, thanks for the update. Good to know existing bookings will be honored, but do you know if it’ll earn Hyatt elite nights (I have a stay in August this year)?

  4. I bought a handful of MMSmith GCs to get Globalist for a current RTW, and it’s been lovely. Now, since I have a half-dozen MMS booked via those cards for the latter half of my trip between now and July, will there a be a point where my Globalist status will make me a Goldsmith at these upcoming hotels?

  5. @Bueller did you find the certificates easy to redeem? Any issues with foreign currencies, any experience changing or canceling bookings?

    Many thanks,

    Sebastien

  6. “did you find the certificates easy to redeem? Any issues with foreign currencies, any experience changing or canceling bookings?“

Flawless. I’ve redeemed about $5K worth so far and my only problem has been keeping track of which codes still have value. It’s easy enough to check, though.

I found an extraordinary value at a Six Senses in Douro, booked it, then realized I put in the wrong dates for a non-refundable stay! Contacted MMS and they contacted 6S and they refunded it all, as a “one time gesture of goodwill.” Other normal cancellations simply return value to the GC, so don’t get rid of the card code once you think it’s been used, just in case you have to change/cancel. They didn’t tell me the number of the card that was refunded and it took a bit of sleuthing through my mail to figure it out. Now I just have every code listed, and how much it’s worth, and what’s used at which site.

  7. If you want to redeem more than 1 code (up to 5 per booking = online posdible) for your booking you can not use the iPhone App. But still you could use Safari on your iPhone or a desktop version. Seems to be a bug.
