Gaming IHG’s New Big Hotel Promotion

Yesterday I wrote about the new IHG Rewards Club Set Your Sights promotion set to go live today. The bonus is now up.

IHG Rewards Club Set Your Sights

The IHG Rewards Club Set Your Sights promotion is structured similarly to 2013’s The Big Win and the copycat ‘Into the Nights’ from fall 2014.

IHG Rewards Club clearly finds .

Of course, complicated promotions can get screwed up and Into the Nights was an IT disaster that most folks have gotten sorted out in their favor.

When you register you’ll see the offer you’re targeted for. You have from Jarnuary 1 thorugh April 30 to complete the promotion. Here’s what I was offered:

IHG Rewards Club Set Your Sights

If I stay 3 nights, at two Holiday Inns, where one is a two-night weekend stay and both are booked directly with IHG I’ll have completed four of the five tasks. Then I just need to download their app, and I should be good to go to earn a total of 50,500 bonus points — enough for 3 free nights, 2 free nights at most of their hotels, or a free night at their priciest properties.

I’d want this to be a little more lucrative in order to do this from scratch with no qualifying stays planned at all, but it’s a pretty generous offer and potentially enough to swing some incremental business.

I’ve got a better offer than many though. They seem to have worked to make the offers for many a little harder than the last iteration and I don’t really blame them. They’re still making the most lucrative offer in the hotel promotion space that we’ve seen of late.

I value IHG Rewards Club points at $0.006 apiece so 50,000 points are worth ~ $300. (You can buy points at $0.007 apiece).

  1. Mine requires 28 nights or a 4-day/3-night stay at a HolidayInn timeshare with sales promotion. I did 32 paid nights during the “Into The Nights” promo, so no way I am doing 28 more. And I am sure as hell not going to a timeshare thingy…

  2. You must not stay at IHG much. I stay (err…stayed a lot in the past) with them and got the shaft. Needed 19 nights on the current one and they offered me 14,000 for 20 nights on this new one. I’m done with IHG.

  3. My husband, who earned the top bonus last time, got a really horrible offer this time, one that doesn’t come near the one you got. He would have to stay 18 nights to earn 16,800 points. Really? But he could earn 8,000 points by staying one night in Norwalk CT or Rockville MD. Really? How does that make sense? And one of the requirements is a HI Club Vacation min-package. Really? It’s totally an insult to loyal customers. Absolutely not worth it. His max would be about 50,000 points — a lot of effort for less gain than last time. Who’s running this company?

  4. This is a “lucrative” promo only if you are not staying with them usually. Like others here, I stay a fair amount with them, my offer is by far more demanding. Outside of getting 5000 for any first stay to “congratulate” me for participating in the last one, the rest are not particularly easy to get (3 stays that include Saturday and one other day? I travel for work, they should’ve noticed that) and the marginal bonus is not very impressive.

If Club Carlson does any sort of promotion, like 2x points this quarter, they will be better/easier for me to get.

  5. I was Royal Ambassador for many years. I was treated exceptionally well in those days. This year I dropped to Platinum, so don’t expect much. I did get the rather complicated 50,000 point offer, but doubt if that will happen.

  6. Is this promo combine-able with the ‘In to the Nights’ promo? There seems to be an opportunity to earn an additional 50000 points! Cause my ‘In to the Nights’ promo requires me to book by Dec 31, and not stay by then. So I can actually book the stays now to take advantage of the ‘In to the Nights’ promo and than gain more points through the ‘Set Your Sights’ promo. Is this possible or am I missing something?
