Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai arrived in Saudi Arabia with plans to discuss an aid package for Jordan. He made a roughly 1000 mile journey.
And when he and his entourage got off the plane, they had an escalator waiting for them. Every passenger’s dream when arriving or departing from a remote stand. (HT: Paddle Your Own Kanoo)

Of course the Al Maktoums use an escalator as air stairs. The King of Saudi Arabia has a his own golden escalator, too. Last fall though it got stuck after arriving in Russia. Apparently they will usually bring two escalators but on that trip they economized. And learned their lesson.

At the time a couple of the thoughts that occurred to me were,
- Now the Saudi king knows how every DC metro rider feels.
- I wonder what happened to the mechanics..?
The rest of us board and deplane in the Gulf like this:
Wait, so the escalator takes you about 2/3 of the way down and then you complete the journey by steps, what’s the point?!?!
