Rdu article is pay walled but Indians in the triangle area aren’t wealthy by any stretch and a nonstop flight is expensive. Rdu nonstops to trans Atlantic cities are all corporate subsidized. By the way it’s completely foolish for any corporation to have a presence in such a regressive state as North Carolina. Who’d want to live in the boring small city of Raleigh, or the dangerous Durham, regardless of the politics?
North Carolina is a great place to live.
Regressive. If you mean low taxes, conservative values, an area that values police and military, has low crime, good employment opportunities, and values God and religious freedom yup you’re right
Plus has some of the best colleges in the nation.
@Sharpay – assume you are from CA or NY and have no idea about NC. First of all it is “purple” state (similar to GA and CO) and not overly regressive (no major abortion prohibitions for example). Also, while I agree Durham can be crime ridden the area of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill is very “blue” and home to 3 leading universities. Then you have Asheville which is full of breweries, food options and culture. Very liberal city. I live in Charlotte which I admit is a boring city (can’t compare to Houston, Dallas or Nashville where I previously lived) but it has a great airport and is very well located.
You are basically a troll and want to paint the entire state (which you know obviously nothing about) based on some misconceived bias. Open your mind and experience things – you may learn something.
Speaking of NC you guys. Any good recommendations for river or rivers to go canoeing in?? Thanks again!
@Gravelly Point Guy – a number of options in general Asheville area. I like French Broad River. If you go toward Murphy (hour to hour and a half from Asheville) you will find the Nantahala Outdoor Center (www.not.com) which has a number of outdoor options including river rafting

Low taxes -> low budget for things that improve the public sphere
Conservative values -> uneducated and obstinate inflexibility to adapt to modern times
Police -> systemically racist and corrupt
Military -> career path for failures in high school
Low crime -> not true as rape culture silenced victims. There are way more crimes than reported
Employment opportunities -> starting salary SF Bay new grad software engineer, $150k + $150k/year high growth equity. Engineering manager, $500k-$2M total compensation. Director/VP deep in 7, sometimes 8 figures. NYC quant trading firms all cash $700k-$10MM+ inclusive of bonus. Can’t code? Then grind it the old fashioned way in banking then private equity for another quick path to the same. Tell me about your $80k pharma lab rat jobs in Cary….

@Sharpay – check out research triangle park. One of top tech talent concentrations outside Silicon Valley. As for colleges Duke and Wake rank very highly and UNC is a “public Ivy”. Get over yourself dude. I’ve been in every state and something to like and hate in each. Even in CA and NY most counties are red but out numbered by urban centers. Last comment from me on Thai but pretty sad you see things through a red/blue prism with no appreciation of what other viewpoints can provide. What a sad, petty life you must lead.

(For the record – I like NC – it has great fossil sharks’ teeth in the area of Aurora, Beaufort County, including those of the megalodon, which became extinct millions of years before the earth was created. I ended up in a local McDonalds for lunch and became an instant celebratory thanks to my British accent – all of the staff gathered around, since they have never come across anyone British before – they were delighted to meet somebody who came from a country just up there next to Canada – obviously students from one of those “world leading colleges” – absolutely wonderful and very lovely people).

Perhaps consider that the owner of this blog encourages such with choice of his articles and the nature of the content therein.
Many have commented in support of a sharper focus on frequent traveller content.
His blog, his choice, but it apparently annoys a lot of folk.
Non-stops to India are pretty overrated right now because they’re almost all to Delhi. I’m excited for the next wave of them to more specific cities which we’re starting to see the beginning of: SFO-BLR, ORD-HYD, EWR-BOM etc
Mumbai is the one that honestly really surprises me that there’s not more directs to. I suspect we’ll see that remediated relatively soon.
Selfishly, I want a direct to COK but considering MAA doesn’t yet have a US direct and COK only just got a LHR direct, it’s going to be a minute.
(Ignoring Russian airspace problems which puts a real damper on things)
