News and notes from around the interweb:
- Aimia, which owns the Aeroplan frequent flyer program, posted a wider than expected loss as it prepares to lose its relationship with Air Canada in 2020. (HT: Canadian Kilometers)
- The British Airways eStore is offering double points for purchases through the shopping portal this weekend, up to 20 Avios per dollar. Though in general I prefer earning other currencies for my shopping.
- Are the sands of time running out for Alitalia following Qatar induced Air Italy rebirth?
- British Airways may be eliminating the table at the middle seat in Club Europe degrading the premium experience to save a bit of weight and thus fuel.
- The head of American’s flight attendants union is stepping down early flight attendants aren’t just grumpy with the airline, they’re grumpy with their union too. He blames Facebook.
- Port Authority of New York New Jersey says they’re going to manage New York airports better.
To borrow from the late Milton Friedman, What would you think of someone who said, ‘I would like to have a cat, provided it barked’? The biological laws that specify the characteristics of cats are no more rigid than the political laws that specify the behavior of the Port Authority. The way PANYNJ behaves, and the adverse consequences, are not an accident, not a result of some easily corrected human mistake, but a consequence of its constitution in precisely the same way that a meow is related to the constitution of a cat.
- Woman gets kicked off a Delta flight from New York JFK to Syracuse for screaming about a screaming baby, not sure how I missed this a week ago.
Does anyone honestly care whether the Euro J on BA (or other Euro airlines) has a table on the middle seat or not?
It’s a crap product with or without the table
The European carriers should just be honest and stop selling “business-class” on their narrow-bodies. Blocking a middle seat on what is basically an old Ryanair plane and tossing a cold sandwich on your tray hardly counts as business-class.
I have found the BA business class disappointing as a product but the service I’ve had has always been top rate, even on short hops. The middle seat table is weird. I’d rather there was an oversized tray table that folded down but then again I’ve always traveled with a companion on these type flights.
Westjet has this same garbage table in their “Plus” section.
Also, that idiot woman is now suspended as she was a state government employee:

Doug has obviously not flown LH biz. While seats not biz, service is. On December flight from FRa to HEL during lunch time, was served full roasted goose dinner.
