Mastercard Introduces New Benefits With Lyft, Postmates, Cell Phone Protection Across Tons of Cards
I’ve been a proponent for about two decades for the idea of having at least one each of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Entirely apart from a card’s benefits, payment networks often have their own unique benefits and also run promotions in conjunction with travel providers. I always want to be prepared to take advantage of the best offers that come along.
Mastercard has introduced several new benefits to its cards, largely though not exclusively for its premium ‘World Elite’ cards. Fortunately two of the rewards cards I carry are World Elite Mastercards.

NO!!! Crowdfunding Site Raising Money to Bring Back Wow Air
The goal of the crowdfunding effort is to “collect at least 10-20,000 shareholders” which will invest in Wow Air or – if that plan fails – “a new low cost airline.” The likelihood of this effort succeeding seems very low, and that’s a good thing.
Ultimately businesses fail for a reason. That’s a good thing, and just as important as their succeeding. In this case Wow Air’s departure makes room for other carriers to succeed – or at least reduce their bleed.

United Airlines Will Fly to South Africa – But Not Johannesburg!
Even though their South Africa partner is exceptionally weak – indeed, perhaps because South African Airways is so weak – United is launching Newark – Cape Town service.
This is certainly a gamble but United has seemed to be in a gambling mood, willing to experiment, fail, and adjust their route network.

Orbitz will give you a credit in your rewards account for taxes on hotels you book today, tax day.

New Stackable Hyatt Promotion for Bonus Points in Las Vegas
Hyatt is offering 20% – 100% bonuses at MGM properties in Las Vegas, through May 15 stackable with their 1000 bonus points per night offer.
Mostly I’m a fan of Hyatt’s annual status match with MGM, which makes things a bit nicer in Vegas for someone that doesn’t go regularly and certainly doesn’t gamble a lot.
New Airline Wants Help Naming its Frequent Flyer Program and Status Levels
StarLux airlines, wants help naming its frequent flyer program and elite status levels.
The Taiwanese startup is planning to commence operations early next year, and is being launched by the former Chairman of Star Alliance carrier EVA Air who was the victim of an estate squabble stemming from plural marriage.
