They’d continue to return money-losing slots in New York to American. That won’t solve all of their problems but is likely a better path – having a partner in strong financial centers that allows them to double down on their co-brand credit card – than pursuing an acquisition of Spirit that wasn’t great for the airline or investors to begin with.
In this case more service out of National airport, especially to destinations that cannot currently legally have service, would benefit consumers from both a convenience and price perspective. So while Delta’s campaign serves its own interest (it always does) it happens to coincide with consumer interests.

Hyatt has apparently deflagged several hotels, removing them from the Hyatt Place chain, likely because their owners were unwilling to invest to bring the property up to standard. While I generally like new build Hyatt Place properties, many of the ex-AmeriSuites Hyatt Places are quite bad.

Kona airport on the Big Island of Hawaii closed Monday afternoon after discovering cracks on the runway. The airport has a single 11,000 foot runway. They quickly brought in contractors to mill and resurface a 10′ x 10′ patch of runway, and expect to complete resurfacing in order to reopen service on Tuesday.
