Austin Airport Arms Race: After Delta Expands To 29 Cities, Southwest Threatens To Retaliate With 200 Departures A Day

Delta Air Lines is growing to 29 destinations out of Austin. Delta currently flies to 25 destinations from Austin. Along with their regional partners, they operate 22% of flights and offer 19% of seats out of the airport. They’re number two behind Southwest, which offers 39% of flights and 41% of seats. The two carriers are duking it out to be anchor tenant for the new airport lease and use agreement as a new concourse gets built. Delta says they see themselves growing to Southwest’s current size in Austin. But Southwest isn’t sitting still. They think they could grow by 50%. Paris Route Dies After Just Two Months—Now Pakistan’s National Airline Sets Its Sights On The U.K.

Pakistan International Airlines is dropping its Lahore – Paris service that was only just introduced in June, and they’re doing it with just two weeks’ notice. Instead, they have their sights set on Britain. They plan to use the aircraft to fly to Manchester, in the U.K. EASA, The European Union Aviation Safety Agency, lifted its ban on Pakistan International Airlines in November 2024. The U.K. just lifted its ban last month. Two aircraft are currently undergoing renovation, including one reassigned from the Lahore-Paris route, to meet the requirements for UK operations. PIA officials expressed confidence that the airline will secure “Third Country Operators” authorization by mid-September. A dust storm forced a ground stop at Phoenix airport on Monday, damaging terminal 4′ sroof and halting the sky train.

On Monday evening, August 25 there was near-zero visibility and hurricane-force wind gusts disrupting flights and damaging airport infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands without power across the area as well.
