News and notes from around the interweb:
- GroundLink is shutting down August 31. They’re selling your account to Dav El | BostonCoach, including your username and password, payment information, and any future scheduled rides. You can opt out,
If you do not wish to have your GroundLink account information transferred to Dav El | BostonCoach please email janderson@groundlink.com on or before August 24th 2020. Make sure you include ACCOUNT DATA TRANSFER in the subject line.
- Not all flight attendants are enamored with their union boss, Sara Nelson and have even come to peace with being furloughed in October rather than in April 2021.
- Qantas 12 hour scenic flights to Antarctica
- Air travel is down 75% and gun seizures are up 300% this doesn’t mean, as One Mile at a Time suggests that more people are trying to board with guns. Instead it’s equally likely that with less throughput at security checkpoints, TSA screeners are more likely to find guns going through x-ray. Remember in the government’s own tests TSA has failed to detect 90% or more of the dangerous items brought through screening.
- Amtrak double points on train travel through October 31 registration required.
Where did you get the info about GroundLink from? I can’t find another source for it anywhere. It looks like GroundLink was already purchased by MTG in 2017 (https://davelbostoncoach.com/marcou-transportation-group-acquires-groundlink/) so how exactly is data getting sold now?
Hopefully you mean user id and hash of the password. Passwords should never be stored.
do you have a source for the Groundlink shutting down? I don’t see any news about, or anything on their website.
If we want fewer guns brought on planes, why not drastically increase the penalties? A really hefty non-negotiable fine and a couple of decades on the no-fly list effective immediately would presumably provide a fair disincentive.
@Neil Enns and @Brian I received an email from GroundLink yesterday (August 10th) with the information. It reflects what Gary reports here.
@Christian
Guessing people w/Guns on plane either didn’t know the law or just plain forgot they packed a piece so increasing penalties would not be helpful.
Maybe a giant sign saying “HEY MORON NO GUNS IN CARRY ON LUGGAGE” on check in and before checkpoint would be useful
@Gary

If your hypothesis is 90% of guns make it on planes and we don’t seem to see any issue, maybe it makes sense to loosen restrictions eh?
My company uses Groundlink as our preferred ground transportation provider. Corporate Travel Dept. emailed everyone on Wednesday that GL is ceasing operations as of 08/31/2020.
Groundlink is owned by DavEl BostonCoach since 2017. They are not selling Accounts to them.
