A 23 year old student called in a hoax bomb threat against easyJet flight 4319 from Lyon to Rennes in France last Friday January 18th. Apparently his parents were on board and he didn’t want them to visit.
The aircraft was forced to turn back to Lyon with 159 passengers on board. The plane was 50 minutes in the air takeoff to touchdown in Lyon, compared to a 1 hour 1 minute average flight time from Lyon to Rennes. It was met on arrival by fire and police units.
Eventually a replacement aircraft and crew from London’s Luton airport were brought in to operate the flight to Rennes.
The young man will appear in court in May and faces up to 5 years in prison and a 75,000 euro fine. Don’t try this at home, kids.
Well, someone is about to get grounded tonight…
At 23 you’d hope he’d be a little smarter than that..
They pretty much have to throw the book at the kid. Less because he’s an idiot than because somebody else might try the same stunt.
I wonder why they didn’t divert to Clermont Ferrand. They have an airport with commercial air service and a longer than 9,000 ft. runway?
People should expect that if you call in a bomb threat, the chances of getting jailed is 100%, not 99%.
Must be my brother-in-law.
If you don’t want your parents to visit just lock your door.
