News and notes from around the interweb:
- A pretty standard reaction from the flight attendant when this just seems normal to them…
Imaging paying for a seat on @AmericanAir, telling the flight attendant it was broke upon boarding, and being told to “survive until we get there”. Now I have sciatica from sitting on a metal pipe for three hours. pic.twitter.com/4tHPhYpjet

- ThanksAgain, which gives you points for spending at airports is also part of my quadruple dip on Lyft rides. You can redeem points for gift cards (including Visa gift cards) and that’s probably a better deal, but you can also convert to miles. They’ve swapped out Alaska Airlines for JetBlue at their points transfer partner.
- I really like Capital One’s restaurant instead of a lounge at Washington’s National airport. But six months in I think it’s time to cycle the menu a bit. Every six months seems like the right cadence to me? Also, I was there this past week and the ice cream machine was broken again.
I was late for my reservation, but no reservation was needed – there was plenty of seating available. That isn’t always the case but I’m surprised that it isn’t busier. The food is really quite good, and no charge for Venture X (and Venture X business) cardmembers…
- SNL: Flying first class:
- $10m settlement from 2016 P Diddy ‘freak off’ hotel the then-Intercontinental Century City LA.
- TIL: “If your pet escapes and falls onto the train tracks in France, a train can be delayed by a maximum of 20 minutes, according to the new protocol, a copy of which was seen by AFP.”
So, if I follow this correctly — at least based on the information at the link — the woman acknowledges willingly going to the hotel room with Diddy and some other male for a days-long drug and sex party and was assaulted in the hallway when she left early.
Sue Diddy and put me on the jury. Sue the other guy and put me on the jury. But I fail to see how the hotel is responsible.
Re: DCA Cap1 landing — I too (knock on wood) never have had to wait for a seat and even when I have made a reservation it was not needed. Hope it stays that way! I’m totally fine with that, ha.
As for the menu, I’ve been averaging about a trip per month so I personally don’t find the menu stale, especially because the food is so good. (The tacos are relatively new iirc so they are refreshing it slightly)
However to your point Gary, when Cap 1 lounge IAD did a slight overhaul to their menu I was estatic. Goes both ways though, I do miss the bison sliders at DEN.
One guy sat on a broken seat for 3 hours. Yeah, that must be the worst thing that happened to anybody ever. The horror. 10 victimhood credits earned.
Americans have developed a reputation worldwide for being constant whiners and complainers, and the reputation is well earned. Sadly this behavior gets constantly rewarded in SM views and of course victimhood credits, so I don’t see any improvement happening soon. However, maybe you, Gary, could do a little good by constantly amplifying these voices?
“Make Stoicism Great Again!”
I am sure the $10MM re Freak Out is selling video for $50k plus being in LA City. Expecting $10M does not mean receiving $10M. I would love to be on all of these juries.
