On domestic flights over 1,500 miles, the airline whose mission is not spending a dollar more than they have to will no longer have flight attendants perform a second pass through the aisle with drink service later in the flight – second drinks are on request only. That’s not the only change.
Dispute resolution training is required for anyone in the union to file a grievance, and since none was ever scheduled, no one at the Association of Professional Flight Attendants can file any grievance against the airline on behalf of a flight attendant.
Formal charges have been filed by one of the American Airlines flight attendant base Presidents against their union President, Julie Hedrick.
These “Article VII Charges” allege ‘willful violation’ of the union’s constitution including improper use of union funds for personal enrichment.
American Airlines flight attendants apparently have been leaving passengers on board aircraft. Everyone leaves the plane, and the sleeping passenger is still there. Sometimes they’re in a window seat and no one notices. Other times they’re in the lavatory.
The man approached two female flight attendants, one wearing the pin, and recorded the interaction. He accused them of antisemitism, while they say he isn’t allowed to record them and that he touched one of them. They wouldn’t let him leave the plane while police were called. Police backed him up on the recording, and the footage is being shared broadly online.
While I don’t fly American as much as I once did – AAdvantage was once so rewarding that going somewhere meant just looking for flights at AA.com – they’re still a major player at my home airport. And there’s a lot that I am looking forward to with them in 2025.
In fact there are five things I’m very excited for from American Airlines in the new year. We should see several big improvements have been years in the making.

American Airlines reduced the number of flight attendants working its widebody and premium domestic flights during the pandemic. Flight attendants weren’t serving extensive meals then, and there weren’t as many passengers on board.
When the pandemic ended, the airline didn’t restore staffing levels.
American Airlines stopped catering the espresso machines on board their Boeing 777, Boeing 787, and Airbus A321T aircraft during the pandemic. The “frothing wands, cups, saucers, brewing pods” were taken off of planes, according to the airline.
This returned to some aircraft in spring 2022. However, Boeing 777-200s didn’t get catered, and Boeing 777-300ERs only got espresso in first class. That’s changed!
It appears these issues were written up in August, though they’re just now coming to light. Fortunately this club’s kitchen is undergoing renovation and it does seem as though those things could be connected – or at least they’re a fortunate coincidence.
