As we enter Labor Day weekend, it’s important to remember that union shop or not management cannot abdicate its responsibility to select and retain the best talent while transitioning out employees who aren’t a good fit for the company — ensuring that everyone inside the business is able to respect the contributions of their colleagues. And management has to set a vision that inspires employees to be their best.

Does Earning Credit Card Rewards Take Advantage of Other Consumers?
I don’t think interest, or credit card interest is evil. I believe that consumers generally understand the choices they’re making, even if you or I might make different choices. And people do need credit. If you didn’t have credit cards, the need for credit would still be there, and consumers would be left with the next best option.
If you need to fix a car to get to work, or pay a medical bill, credit cards are a better way to do that than payday loans which are better than having your legs broken. You’re paying interest, but you’re also getting something of value in return.
American Airlines Shutting Down 3 Admirals Clubs in October
Effective October 15 American Airlines will be closing its Admirals Clubs at Hartford (BDL), Greensboro (GSO), and Caracas (CCS).
The airline says they’re doing this to control costs, offering in a statement that “These decisions are never easy, and we must always ensure we are striking the right balance of providing the level of service our customers have come to expect while keeping our costs in-check.”
American Airlines Rolls Out New Beers September 1
On September 1 American Airlines will be making a hard cutover to change three of their beers on board.
Personally I’m just glad American has increased the supply of Woodford Reserve in first class to six minis per first class liquor drawer, so they shouldn’t run out on most flights.
American’s CEO Finally Tries His Own Coach Product. Here’s His Reaction.
American Airlines CEO Doug Parker has finally flown the airline’s new standard coach product, a full nine months after it has entered service.
American debuted a new domestic interior on their first Boeing 737 MAX back in November. That isn’t just the new product that is going on one plane (of which they have 100 on order). They’re taking all of their existing Boeing 737s and replacing the interior with new seats with less distance from seat back to seat back, that have less padding, and no seat back video.
American Airlines Voids a Bump Voucher. Did They Do It For Spite – or Worse?
American offered compensation so that the rebooking would be listed as voluntary rather than involuntary, not because DOT requirements were at play here at all.
The passenger agreed to give up their seat for compensation and American agreed to book the passenger onto the next available flight. Due to a delay the next available flight happened to be the original one.

Fare Alert: Premium Economy Many US Cities to China, Hong Kong From $884 Roundtrip
It’s never been as easy or cheap to fly internationally, largely because of ultra low cost carriers across the Atlantic and the rise of Chinese airlines fighting for business from the US and connecting that traffic to Southeast Asia.
However I really value premium cabin fare deals. Because while you can sometimes find transatlantic fares for under $300 roundtrip, and transpacific fares under $400 roundtrip, those would have been great in my youth but I don’t want to fly coach such long distances.
Relationship Advice for the Frequent Flyer, Do You Take the Upgrade?
Two years ago I wrote about husbands who fly business class while their wives fly coach.
Now from the Washington Post‘s dating column…
DEAL: New York – Madrid Just $813 Roundtrip in Premium Economy
Premium economy is like domestic first class, sometimes with better amenities when you’re flying internationally. It stands between coach and business class and is often an affordable alternative that’s especially attractive to leisure flyers, business customers buying up themselves when their employers won’t pay for a premium economy, and folks flying Westbound from Europe on a day time flgiht where sleep isn’t a priority.
