In perhaps the most penny pinching move yet that also best symbolizes the direction they’ve headed, JetBlue has started to charge $2 for Bloody Mary Mix. And by the way, it’s the same brand – but a smaller 7.5 ounce can – as what United, Delta and Southwest offer for free.
JetBlue is back with more major changes to their flying, trying to stem the tide of losses. In a tweetstorm (albeit on Bluesky), aviation watchdog JonNYC lays out changes to routes that JetBlue will be making, both to its Europe flights and to domestic operations from New York, Miami and Seattle and more – changes that the airline hasn’t announced yet.
On Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston rejected the American Airlines appeal to reinstate its Northeast Alliance with JetBlue. I wrote after oral argument that “questioning by the judges…seemed more skeptical of American than of the government.”
The end of the partnership has been bad for customers, and bad for American and JetBlue which are in a tough spot trying to compete against Delta and United in New York. Neither one can grow there, and both are too small on their own to really matter.
There’s a chance that they could try to re-start the partnership that was dismantled last year. Both carriers say that they want this.
A JetBlue passenger is suing the airline, claiming she suffered severe injuries from a “dangerously cold” ice cream sandwich served during an August 20 flight from New York JFK to Paris. Karla Quinonez of New Jersey alleges in a lawsuit filed on October 22 that the frozen treat was so hard that it fractured one of her teeth..
JetBlue is discounting redemptions on Etihad across 44 routes from Boston, New York JFK, Washington Dulles and Chicago. This appears to be around 44% off normal pricing, and is available in economy only with stopovers not permitted. Members need to issue tickets and travel by October 31, so it’s only for close-in bookings.

Six months ago I wrote that JetBlue would open lounges at New York JFK and Boston Logan airports. The carrier pushed back on this – in June the airline said that lounges were too expensive and not profitable – but today they’ve announced it.
