- Spirit Airlines tickets are cheaper at the airport because the carrier charges a ‘web convenience fee’. In order for them to charge a fee (not a tax!) on top of the fare, it has to be optional. They make it optional by letting you avoid it in-person, which almost no one does because of the time it takes to go to the airport and ticket in person, plus transportation costs of getting there and back.
