And it’s only Wednesday.
At Baltimore Washington International airport a man who claimed to have a bomb in his vehicle was arrested. The vehicle was checked and no bomb was found. However the road leading up to the terminal were closed and so were security checkpoints, while passengers inside the terminal weren’t allowed to leave.

There were also multiple stabbings at the Atlanta airport’s terminal South this afternoon. One of the three victims was a police officer, who was stabbed in the leg.

The knife-wielding woman was tackled and then arrested shortly before 5 p.m. According to the airport “impacts to operations are minimal” and there is no longer any “threat to the public.”
There’s no reason at this point to believe that these incidents are related in any way, except that they both occurred at airports relatively contemporaneously. It’s difficult not to immediately wonder whether they’re related to recent world events. Could such incidents occur more frequently? There hasn’t been an active terrorism threat at U.S. airports in well over a decade. That could actually change.
Cue the ridiculous 5 color code system…
this is a good reminder that the world is on edge and that is true here in the US too.
of course, the people that heed the notice are not likely to be the ones that would have caused problems in the first place.
oh, and aviation is always high profile
@TLU: There aren’t 5 colors anymore… that’s so 2000s. Now there are just two levels: Elevated and imminent. Basically we are only ever in a state of something’s probably happening or is happening. Don’t let your guard down!
BWI was probably someone leaving a car unattended on the curb. Has happened many times before.
Not enough guns.
The police have a tough call anytime a nutcase runs loose. One, maybe two warnings to drop the weapon then ZZZZZZZT. Current nutcase problem ended.
The Florida woman attacked her taxi/car driver first and then continued inside the airport building.
@Gary: Any update on whether these were just random nut jobs? That would be my assumption at this point.
@Thing 1 – seems to be! But also shootings at Philadelphia airport yesterday!
@Gary. Thanks. The world’s gone mad.
