Three Things I Didn’t Know About The Emirates Credit Card

The Emirates credit card has a 60,000 point offer and is counting spend towards earning elite status through the end of the year.

There are (3) things I did not realize about this card when I wrote about the 60,000 point initial bonus offer and the ability to spend towards elite status this year.

  1. It turns out that even though the offer was announced June 16 to count spend towards status (1 elite tier mile per 4 rewards miles earned) from a technical standpoint the tier mikes campaign went live on the 1st of June so all the spend made from the 1st of June will receive applicable tier miles. In other words, it’s retroactive.

  2. A commenter points out something I did not realize about the card as well, that no annual fee authorized users of the premium card get Priority Pass with unlimited visits at no extra cost as well.

  3. Additionally, the commenter also noted that while the premium card provides cardmembers with Gold elite status in the Skywards program the first year, and the ability to spend on the card to keep that status, those who fail to do so keep Silver status if they don’t meet that spend.

The Priority Pass unlimited for authorized users makes the premium card interesting to some.

  1. The problem is that it’s almost impossible having a card from Barclays Bank if you already have a card with them ! Even if you want to swap to Emirates account you are not allowed , wanna cancel the actual I have and get the Emirates one , you re not allowed without taking the risk of not having the old or the new

  2. The Ritz Carlton credit card has the same Priority Pass benefit for those who currently have it as well as those who product change into it. It is the main reason I keep the Ritz Carlton card.

  3. They need to make this card more compelling. A $499 annual fee with no real way to offset it is not very appealing. The ‘up to’ $1996 off four business class tickets was a filled with so many loopholes as to make it useless. A simple rebate off the first $350 in Emirates charges every year, plus perhaps an annual bonus of X number of miles, would go a long way to make it a valuable card with an annual fee in line with others.
