New and notes from around the interweb:
- The top 20 airlines by aircraft on order
- Stuck at San Francisco’s airport overnight? Airlines won’t put you up, and hotels are full.
SFO is days into a three-week construction project to fix one runway’s crumbling pavement. More than 230 flights were delayed on Tuesday alone, and at least 100 more were canceled. Thousands of travelers have been stranded for hours, sometimes overnight, looking for a place to stay or spending the night in the airport.
- American’s $15 million jury verdict against Sabre (which it used to own) for abusive (monopolistic) agreements that harmed US Airways has been revived by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
- Since he couldn’t get a U.S. Visa, a 32 year old man from India disguised himself as an 81 year old man and tried to board a flight but was caught because despite a costume and makeup he didn’t really look like he was that old.
- Last summer Southwest Airlines eliminated inflight peanuts but is now selling them online.
- Delta’s new Mumbai flight will operate year round daily instead of dropping to 5 times a week in off season.
I flew SFO-DEN on Tuesday (despite the constant reminders from United that I shouldn’t). My incoming plane was originally 90 minutes late, but it made up time in the air, turned around quickly, and I actually made it home only 10 minutes late.
Not everything goes wrong!
Yah it’s not the take-offs so much as the landings. AA pretty much just added 90 minutes delay to every departure from DFW this week. IMy midnight arrival was close to 1:30am :/
