News and notes from around the interweb:
- Please welcome outstanding blogger Matthew Klint to BoardingArea
- Good interview with the retiring CEO of Star Alliance. On the possibility of Azul becoming a Star Alliance member,
[Brazil’s Azul] we’ve had many conversations with. They’re not ready to make a decision. It is a big undertaking, and it involves the entire company. Lots of IT work. Lots of training that has to happen. Lots of processes that have to be harmonized to become a member of Star. They just didn’t feel like they’re ready to go through that work in the middle of what’s happening in the market right now.
- Second Sydney airport gets green light
- For the economics of the newly-announced world’s longest flight Perth – London on a Boeing 787-9 to work, Qantas may need an a revenue premium of one-third to 40% since they’ll be burning so much fuel just because of the weight from carrying enough fuel to make the journey.
Qantas Airbus A380 - Virtual tour of the new Ethiopian Airlines Airbus A350. Business class is fully flat, but sure wish it was direct aisle access. I’ve always found award availability to be pretty good on this Star Alliance airline.
- Both United and American are competing on twitter to bring back Jeff Smisek. Hey, twitter teams, this is a parody account and the real Smisek entered a non-prosecution agreement over the summer…
- Kuwait Airways higlights their new Boeing 777-300ERs with fully flat business seats (similar to United’s current – not Polaris – seats) and enclosed first class suits by creating a mannequin challenge video. (HT: One Mile at a Time)

Cloud Nine on the ET A350 is strangely uncomfortable. For whatever reason, the seats seem to not be aligned with the legrests and you sort of have to twist to sleep properly. I thought it was just me, but two of my colleagues independently said the same thing. I prefer the 787 or ideally the 777 for a more comfortable seat.
the twitter responses show they didn’t even get the joke! too funny! Go@FakeUnitedJeff!
Huh? Seems pretty clear to me that UA and AA twitter knew they were dealing with a fake profile.
I mean, come on, the handle has “fake” in its name.
I think the twitter teams were definitely aware of the joke. Do.yiu think they would tell the real smeagol to look at their public job listings?
