News and notes from around the interweb:
- At the world’s worst airline hope may spring eternal, but 12 employees of Pakistan International Airlines have been arrested “following the discovery of 6 kg (13.23 lb) of heroin in the toilet of an aircraft bound for Dubai.”
- In a reverse of revenue-based frequent flyer programs, Spirit is offering bonus miles based on how little you pay — a cool stunt they first tried two and a half years ago.
Of course Spirit miles still expire after 3 months of inactivity, charge close-in booking fees for redemptions within 180 days of travel, and only get you more flights on Spirit (or magazines). So the revenue-based major programs are still better. A lot better…
- Fresh on the heels of up to a 40% bonus on purchased points in July, Hyatt Gold Passport is offering a 30% bonus in August. What’s regular price when something’s always on sale, anyway?
- Up to 2500 bonus Southwest Rapid Rewards points for online shopping through August 15. (HT: Doctor of Credit)
- Southwest’s pilots are calling for the ouster of the airline’s CEO. I’d say be careful what you wish for. United’s pilots pushed out Jim Goodwin as CEO 15 years ago but it didn’t win them anything (and it took the DOJ to actually get rid of a bad CEO). American’s pilots decided they couldn’t live with Tom Horton and it brought them a US Airways merger and they’re now publicly harping on American.
Replacing the CEO, while popular rhetoric in bargaining, low cost chatter, and great for the base if you do take a scalp, usually doesn’t actually benefit the pilots.
- Woman arrested for throwing juice at a Cathay Pacific flight attendant (HT: Loyalty Lobby) I bet there are a lot of passengers that flight attendants would like to have arrested.
- Video of American Eagle pilot taking down drunk passenger who attacked flight attendants. (HT: One Mile at a Time) I bet there are a lot of passengers that flight attendants would like pilots to do this to, also.
Did he miss the Trump rally?
Dude deserved to be taken down based soley on his stupid sideburns that don’t connect to either his hair nor his goatee/beard. Offensive. Oh, and the pushing of the flight attendant was also bad.
His FB account is still active, however, nothing has been posted to it in since event took place.
Too much Kentucky Bourbon!
