News and notes from around the interweb:
- Air Canada is legally required to continue performing heavy aircraft maintenance in Montreal. TWA had such restrictive labor rules that it had to keep Boeing 747 maintenance bases open after they no longer operated 747s. They paid below industry wages yet had above industry labor costs. Here Canada’s high court simply rules the airline is Canadian…
- Speculation: Was the House Majority Leader’s plane blown up in 1972 so that another congressman’s wife could marry a mobster?
- Speculation: The possibility that Delta could incorporate foreign assets abroad to shield itself from US taxes
- 1300+ free US Bank FlexPerks points
- Accor hotels will be running a 3-day 50% off sale in Asia Pacific with free breakfast. Book between November 11-13 for stays November 16 through April 30. (HT: Rob G.)
- Mr. Haney: An Inspiration For American, Delta and United? I don’t agree with all of it, though some of you will.
Delta the patriot. It’s all about the American jobs, unless it’s about the bottomline.
Just booked 4 award seats in coach on Delta SNA-LGA for the thanksgiving weekend. It cost us 190K miles (2X45K plus 2X50K) and around $145 all in. While AA wanted 340K miles plus around $200 for the same itinerary.
So, as far as I am concerned, Delta is as American as apple pie … or pumpkin pie 😉
Actually Air Canada is not forced to do heavy maintenance in Canada because it is Canadian, but because it is Air Canada. When AC was privatized part of the deal was keeping certain work in certain locations. Shareholders at the IPO bought into the company knowing this. AC tried to get around the law and failed.
No sympathy.
They also could have asked for the law to be changed and have not. Heck, the last government may have been open to it. But they didn’t.
No sympathy.
@Brian I think you are misunderstanding me. The existence of that law is very… Canadian. 😉
Seems that Accor link goes to a page that says the sale is from Nov 11-13. When I tried to put in my Accor number, it said that I had the wrong credentials. Too bad, since I need lodging in both SIN and HKG during the sale period.
Gary-
Has your investigative research turned up anything new on D.B. Cooper?
Tried to book the Accor offer….gave me the same prices as before the sale. Accor telephone support says “it’s an internet promotion and we can do nothing to assist you”.
Waste of time….
