Where’s the article on how to get out of resort fees? This is what Gary knows best, rather than the attempt to understand pilot/airline/FAA rules and regulations…
Usually, one needs to read the article before bitching.
However certain folks dont tend to read or concern themselves with facts.
Better to express a misguided opinion and slam the platform on which they choose to vent.
Why would someone check a keyboard in a soft case? They should watch videos of machines kicking bags from one conveyor belt to another at DFW for example. There’s no way it does not get damaged, and it has nothing to do with AA.

Same thing for golf clubs. The airlines will only take responsibility for damage if they are in a hard case, yet most of the cases we see at luggage claim are soft sided.
The keyboard would probably not be covered for much anyway, even in a hard case, because the airlines have very low limits of reimbursement for checked electronics.

IIRC (and I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong), resort fees came to prominence when hotels had to ensure they would appear competitively priced on search engines like Expedia and Kayak so they stripped the cost down to look reasonable and then they hit you with the resort fee.
Hotels can still charge the resort fee – just build it into the price of the room and don’t call it a fee.
Resort fees are a nuisance. The role of the federal government isn’t nuisances.
The Hertz snafu sounds like a textbook property law case. Did the final buyer receive good title from the company that purchased the vehicle at auction?
It is pretty settled that a vehicle owner loses title if a vehicle is towed and sold at auction (though typically there would be a notice requirement). In this case the tow company notified Avasa (Hertz franchisee) of the auction.
Hopefully the owner will sue the heck out of Hertz and the tow company. I would also file a criminal complaint against Avasa and its tow company for vehicle theft, seeing as the vehicle was never reported stolen. If SDPD arrested the executives this would be cleared up in a day.

Sorry but truth in pricing is VERY MUCH the role of government. Do you think gas pumps would be accurate if they were not inspected regularly?
I want to know what the charges are up front. It’s bad enough that we are saddled with sales taxes and “bed taxes” that some communities add. These charges are well known up front and need to be the price advertised.

The keyboard guy used a SOFT CASE!! Those are not even vaguely supposed to be used in the shipping / airline context.
Real flight cases for keyboard cost $350-400. They are bulky and and weigh a ton; nobody likes using them.
But if you’re a pro musician and you need to fly w/ a keyboard, use the right case!!
