Why the 24 Year Old Who Attacked a Passenger Inflight on Sunday Died Prior to Landing

On Sunday a 24 year old attacked another passenger, was restrained, got sick and then died on an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin. The flight diverted to Cork, Ireland.

At the time I wrote, “There’s little to go on besides speculation about what caused him to become agitated or to fall unconscious. Thoughts are with the family members he may have left behind.”

The most common reaction to the story was this was patient zero in the coming zombie apocalypse.

We now know a lot more about what happened on that flight.

A doctor and two nurses who happened to be on the flight performed CPR to no avail. A passenger on the flight describes,

The captain of the flight had asked if there were any medics on board.

“After that it got worse I would say, his seizure seemed to get worse. He was actually on the ground shaking violently,” Mr Leonard said.

“The noise he was making was like something I have never heard before.

“It’s not something you’d hear everyday. It was like deep anguish is the best way I could describe it, very, very troubled. Not screaming in a sense you know if you’d hurt yourself or something, just a very guttural, from deep within him.”

Apparently the had swallowed 80 pellets of cocaine with a street value over $60,000. A pellet ruptured and he ingested 0.8 grams.

Another woman on the flight was detained “after passengers reported seeing her with the man in the Lisbon airport.” Four pounds of white powder was found in her luggage. She insisted it was baking soda. It was.

  1. I just watched the first season of Narcos on Netflix. That was literally a scene in the show…

  2. She must have been carrying the baking soda to confound the authorities. Baking soda in her luggage = baking soda in her partner’s stomach pellets. Brilliant strategy! No need to test the pellets for cocaine now.

  3. Weird story. I’m sure drug mules like this are more common than we think. The baking soda lady is even more strange in a way.

  4. The lady was either on her way to a soda bread baking competition in Dublin and she wanted to bring her own special baking soda or; she was supposed to be a diversion. She expected to get caught, then all the attention would have been on her so her partner could have a better chance of sneaking through customs.

  5. If you are a cocaine smuggler, you swallow cocaine, jump on a plane, bite people and die. It’s what you do. If you want to save 15% or more on car insurance, you switch to GEICO. It’s what you do.

  6. Invent a machine that rupture pellets at security screening. All drug runners will be caught or dead. Save money on trails and jails

Invent a drug that quickens onset of AIDS and death in people with HIV to within two weeks. And all living humans would be rid of HIV in a month. Better if heartless cure than the billions spent developing a vaccine.

  7. @credit: What the actual f*&k? You know that HIV is basically a chronic disease like diabetes where people live for decades now, right?

Better hope they don’t invent a machine that kills dumbass trolls….

  8. Thinking out of the box. Trump is polling 25% because he says what people are thinking but afraid to say.

    Is he a troll?

  9. Maybe they were going to cut to coke with baking soda when they landed and then sell…not sure if you can do it with baking soda.

  10. An article I read on a different site stated there were 10 grams of cocaine in each pellet. .8 grams seems hardly enough to kill anyone. I know people who do a gram a night and are fine. I’d imagine this isn’t a pleasant way to die.

  11. The reason that .8 grams killed him and not ur coke head friend is that different parts of ur body react differently to coca one just like say a pepper. u can rub a pepper onthe back of ur palm and get a slight reaction but say rub it on ur eye and u will get a stronger reaction. Think of pot. Pot high lasts way longer when ingesting pot than when u smoke it.

  12. Maybe the dude should have ingested the baking powder pellets instead.
And let the girl carry the cocaine.
