Wyndham Rewards members receive waived DoorDash delivery fees when ordering food to any Wyndham Rewards hotel with promo code WRD. In addition they’re offering 250 Wyndham Rewards points per order, whether delivery is to a hotel or not by starting the order through Wyndham’s site.
There’s also 2000 Wyndham Rewards points for your first DoorDash order, basically Wyndham gets the referral credit for a new customer and rebates part of it to you.
According to Edison trends it’s a dog eat dog (well, depending what you order) business between the food delivery services with no clear market leader. That suggests, perhaps, that the market is ripe for consolidation. In the meantime though it means aggressive competition, and one way that’s happening is through marketing partnerships.
A Wyndham Rewards partnership with Door Dash may seem unusual, since they only recently acquired La Quinta and most people believe that La Quinta is Spanish for “next to Denny’s.” (In fact chain founder Sam Barshop acquired the least expensive furniture he could find, which had a Southwestern motif, and chose a brand name to match.)
Most Wyndham brands don’t offer room service, but room service itself is dying in many hotels as guests are offered ‘grab and go’ instead. Room service is expensive to provide in terms of staff (to deliver and collect) and supplies (that sit in guest rooms) and is being ordered less and less at hotels where there are other options — and the growth of food delivery services that put most restaurants at the touch of a button mean there are frequently other options.
Waived delivery fees don’t waive service fees, I guess they separate these out so that they look less expensive and so that they can waive one and still charge the other. Nonetheless it’s an interesting partnership and if you order via DoorDash anyway, you might as well collect Wyndham points when you do.
The Wyndham release notes that “DoorDash offers delivery from over 310,000 stores on the platform, partnering with ninety percent of the top 100 restaurants that offer delivery, including national favorites like The Cheesecake Factory, Wendy’s and Chipotle.” I imagine the example restaurants were chosen with their customers in mind, though I cannot imagine having a choice now of most restaurants brought to my door step and choosing to have Wendy’s delivered.
