Frequent Traveler University Los Angeles Announced!

The next Frequent Traveler University will be held November 30th through December 2nd at the Sheraton Gateway LAX. Here’s the Milepoint discussion thread for the event.

The last two Frequent Traveler Universities (both in the New York area) sold out.

  • Cost of the event is $99, register here. The event runs Friday evening with a kickoff holiday cocktail party, includes lunch Saturday and Sunday, and a Starbucks card for use in the lobby courtesy of Million Mile Secrets.

  • The group rate for the hotel is $105 per night including internet, bookable here.

Speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Gary Leff (gleff – that’s me) and Ben Schlappig (lucky9876coins of the One Mile at a Time blog) — you are certain to learn a ton about redeeming your points.

  • Million Mile Secrets will offer a solid introduction to those new (or always looking to brush up!) on the hobby.

  • Steve Belkin (beaubo) has experience earning tens of millions of miles and burning hundreds of millions. He’s hired New Zealand college students and
disabled Thai rice farmers to fly for him. He’ll show you how to take the next big mileage deal and turn it to your LASTING advantage – without having a run in with the DEA while you’re at it!

  • Brett Snyder of the Cranky Flyer blog, Founder of Cranky Concierge and one of Conde’ Nast‘s world’s top travel specialists. He’ll teach you all the tricks you need to know during your travels, when things go wrong along the way, how to extricate yourself from the trickiest weather delays and mechanical cancellations. Wow your friends. Impress gate agents. And get yourself to your destination with ease.

  • Seth Miller, the Wandering Aramean, has a technology background and has built several tools that make it easier for you to manage your travel, to find award tickets, and to fly as inexpensively as possible. He shares these tools with you for free! And he knows about as much of the ins and outs of United Airlines, JetBlue, and obscure African airlines as most anyone.

There’s more to come. So “from Fuel Dumps to First Class you’ll learn everything you need to know about travel, miles, and points!”

  1. I sure hope there will be more content on mileage run strategies and techniques. I thought the last Meadowlands FTU session was way too credit card points oriented. How about a better balance?

  2. I always learn something new at every seminar I go to. I have been to both Chicago seminars but I missed the last FTU in New York because I was grounded due to medical reasons.

Glad to see that it is in LA since I work close (6 miles) to the Sheraton Gateway LAX.

    Glad it is in LA!!

  3. Signed up Gary! looking forward to meeting you in person…….can I take my picture with you? hehe

  4. Nothing big, but the FTU states, “The ONLY educational event that features The Godfather of Frequent Flyer Miles, Randy Petersen” Not true.

    Chicago seminars has him too.

  5. As a New Zealand college student, how on earth do I find someone willing to pay for me to fly for them? I’d be quite happy to do so…!

  6. May I suggest having the Friday night kickoff cocktail party at Encounter, that Jetsons-style restaurant in LAX???

Looking fwd to the event, glad to see it will be held in LA i/o NYC (esp as LA is far nicer in December!).

  7. Just registered! Looking forward to it (and finding even more reasons to bore my family and friends about the nuances of frequent flyer progams 🙂

  8. I am registered. Any other females going that don’t know anyone? It would be nice to meet online so we don’t feel like fish out of water 🙂

  9. @ M. Jan, I’m thinking about going. I just need to convince my husband in a way that he wouldn’t laugh at me and think I’m too obsessed about miles andoint.

  10. Hi sandy, please feel free to email me at sjgrado at yahoo dot com. I didn’t want to use any points I have on the room since they’re better used for airfare so I did book a room with 2 queens. If you want to we can split the cost. If you already have accomodations, it will just be nice to know someone there in advance. Where are you from? Im in bakersfield, ca. My husband thought I was crazy too until I paid for an open jaw from LAX to Amsterdam returning from Basel, Switzerland all with points! Now, he’s like…Go Go Go to FTU!

  11. Erica, your post was funny! It will be nice to meet similar minded nut jobs right

  12. DAMN! Missed the chicago seminars and am going to miss out on the LA ftu too.

    Maybe next time? 🙁

  13. @mjan..I just e mailed you. I’m attending by myself also. The things I’ll do to learn to collect more miles!
