News and notes from around the interweb:
- United eliminates first class on Australia routes, will operate all long haul international flights from LAX with 787s
- Fidelity considering a new co-brand issuer and payment network.
- 25 easy points to prevent your Marriott Rewards account from expiring. (Marriott Rewards points will start to expire for the first time in February.)
- Amtrak Guest Rewards will give 3 points per dollar at Raise.com (gift cards). With points that will be worth a fixed 2.9 cents for most trains that’s a pretty good return. (HT: J.S.)
- Vietnam Airlines cancels Airbus A380 orders. The Airbus A380 has been largely a failure and they could well bring the program to an end.
Still, as a passenger, I love the A380 or at least I love what some airlines have done with it like Emirates (showers!), Singapore (double beds in their middle section suites), and Qantas (the best way to fly between the US and Australia). Though I don’t love all A380s (I’m talking to you, Air France).
- Meanwhile, Antonov An-158s are actually selling. To Cuba.
Social media points do not extend Marriott expiry! Please get your fellow bloggers to read the terms and conditions!
While I don’t think you have an obligation to fellow bloggers, it is clear from Marriot’s FAQs on the issue that this doesn’t extend the expiration date, nor does point transfers in or out. Converting points to miles or redeeming point in any fashion does.
I’m with Andy.
