The End of Alaska Airlines Aeromexico Awards, or Just Long Term Hiatus?

Alaska Airlines has removed its award chart for Aeromexico travel.

You can no longer book Aeromexico awards using Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles or even change existing Aeromexico travel plans that were booked via Alaska Airlines.

I have no reason to suspect anything other than that this is due to technical issues. That’s Alaska’s story, and it’s certainly believable interfacing with Aeromexico’s IT (having dealt with both their computer systems and their human IT).

On the other hand chief frenemy Delta has a 49% stake in Aeromexico, and these challenges are sufficiently permanent that the award chart for Aeromexico travel itself has been removed from the Alaska website.

The relationship between the two airlines does continue, though, since mileage-earning is still provided for.

  1. It’s been like that since sometime last fall. Aeromexico doesn’t get a whole lot of attention but they do have 2 Y and 2 J award seats to MEX from LAS/SATDFW/IAH/ORD nearly every day, and good availability to South America and Europe.

  2. It’s for technical issues. Aeromexico’s FF program (which is a spin off company) has too many problems with availability.

  3. It’s been almost a year since the original post, and AS still has no award chart posted for AM travel. Is this still due to “technical issues”?
