17,000 Singapore Airlines Miles for $10 (or 40,000 for $170)

Mighty Travels points out two very lucrative offers at the Singapore Airlines mileage-earning online shopping mall. (Singapore just launched this rewards portal.)

In fact, they’re so good that I cannot promise they will be honored, though if the likelihood is inversely related to the value of the offer then the second one might post more easily.

17,077 Miles for a LifeLock Basic Subscription

That’s the offer, and it’s super generous.

A basic subscription is $9.95 a month and the first 30 days should be free. In theory you should get the miles with only a single $10 cost but it may stretch out into another month. I have zero interest in LifeLock otherwise.

23,077 Miles for New Customers Purchasing a Premium Domain Name from Network Solutions

A very good offer, but at a higher cost.

Find a premium domain (make sure you go through the Singapore portal first!) for $159 and you’re buying points at 7/10ths of a cent apiece based on this offer.

Why You Should Care About Singapore Airlines Miles

I recommend Singapore Airlines Krisflyer for many disaffected United flyers who aren’t going for elite status and who will see their mileage-earning suffer now that United is moving to revenue-based earning for flights next year. They offer 100% mileage earning on United fares, though their miles do expire after three years.

Here are some of the great uses of Singapore Airlines miles. US domestic awards (excluding Hawaii) are 40,000 points roundtrip in first class. Domestic Hawaii awards are 35,000 points roundtrip in economy.

Will The Miles Actually Post?

Most of the time when fantastic mileage deals are offered through online shopping portals I have gotten the miles, though I do sometimes need to keep track of what is due to me and prompt for them.

There have certainly been fantastic mileage deals that a portal decided not to honor, such as the easycgi deal through the US Airways mall and the Verizon deal through the AAdvantage portal. Although in both cases members were offered something for their troubles, I covered what Cartera gave in the Verizon case.

For more on how online mileage and rebate shopping portals work, I interviewed the President and CEO of Cartera Commerce earlier in the year.

My own bet is that at least the LifeLock offer doesn’t go easily, so decide whether or not you want the hassle of participating. Personally I find these rides as much fun as hassle myself.. No guarantees and thanks again to Mighty Travels for spotting.

  1. Hello, do you think Singapore Airlines will devalue Krisflyer miles in the near future given that Singapore Airlines will be introducing Premium Economy in 2015?

  2. Site won’t let me sign up for LifeLock. I get an error message on the signup page “Please select the appropriate gender” and it won’t accept any selection.

  3. besides Lifelock, there are other deals available, you can search from the dropdown – search by KF miles.

  4. Did it, hope to see the FF miles post! Then immediately cancel! Thanks for the heads up Gary (and Mighty Travels!)

  5. Well, good luck with it. I think the last sentence is key – if you find hassle in getting miles to post fun, you’ll be having a barrel of laughs with this one, I suspect. Not for me, but some will find it worth a try.

  6. Did you take advantage of this promo, Gary?
When I was signing up for the basic, it asked for my SS number and so now I’m on the fence.

  7. “Please log in to start shopping”. Tried from two different browsers. No luck with the Krisflyer Spree site. Tried for both me and my wife. Anyone else having that problem?

  8. so do you have to pay the $99 for lifelock, I don’t see an option for billing monthly they are charging me $99/yr. Do they then pro rate the refund after canceling??

  9. These appear to be off by a factor of 10 for some reason. Click on the calculator, say for the lifelock offer, then enter 10 pounds. You’ll see 1778 KF miles as your reward. Same for the Firebrand training and others

  10. I got problems trying to get the premium domain… ca you please explain it step by step

  11. Agree with you about LifeLock being a little bit unlikely. Presumably these will post as pending on the portal within a few days, and we can see how many miles come up.

What’s the worst that we’re out? $9? And LifeLock may even refund that pro rata if the portal immediately refuses to honor…

  12. Does it say in the terms & conditions when to expect the miles to post? Is it after a year of subscription or after 30 days?

  13. Do u think i can open two life lock accounts (for 2 different people), on one singapore accounts? and it should both post into one account?

  14. Am I the only one that saw the line on the lifelock website about reducing the number of credit card pre-approvals you will be sent by signing up? Haha. Just saying. 🙂

  15. I actually already have LifeLock, so not sure what I can do (maybe sign up a family member or something), but one thing to point out: the 30 days free for LifeLock only seems to apply to the Ultimate enrollment–basic doesn’t get a free month. But, there’s the interesting verbiage on the Krisflyer shopping portal you mentioned:

“Please note: the stated reward is for purchasing LifeLock Basic. You will receive a higher reward for the LifeLock Ultimate and Command Centre. A lower reward will be given for the Credit Score Manager.”

I’m wavering between going ahead with basic for the $9 or trying the Ultimate/Command Center for $22.50 with 30 days free and perhaps even more than 17077 Krisflyer miles (although I suspect it wouldn’t actually be more than 17077 miles, but at least my out-of-pocket expense would be limited to $0 instead of $9).

  16. Any way to lengthen the expiration date on miles…….miles activity in the account does not reset clock?

  17. Does Lifelock still put an automatic fraud alert on your credit files when you sign up? That will effectively eliminate automatic approvals for CC signups. Adds a bit of hassle for churners.

  18. these rarely get honored (see e.g. the 5000 mile offer for the verizon palm charger) so beware as refunds are not always easy to process.

also as Gary notes SQ has a HARD EXPIRE of 3 years – NO EXTENSIONS, so if you are planning to save up for 2 of those expensive F tickets (or even 1) the clock is ticking, you’d better be a Chase churner or a real BIS flyer on *A

  19. Anyone has issues with portals posting when shopping on an iPad? I’m not near my regular computers.

  20. @tri n–it’s been awhile since I signed up, but I definitely don’t recall a hard inquiry being placed on my report.

I gave up with this. The stupid LifeLock enrollment form kept complaining that every SSN I put into it was invalid. Then I tried to do it in a different browser only to realize that there is absolutely no way to retrieve your Krisflyer number if you didn’t write it down from the enrollment page. Even the “Welcome to Krisflyer!” email I got didn’t contain any mention of it. Blech, what a dumb site. They need some IT help.

  21. The 3 year expiration: Can you reserve the ticket on the day before the expire date for a future flight or does the flight have to occur prior to the 3 year mark?

  22. @JustSaying, you have to redeem the points by the expiration date. So let’s say your points expire June 30th, 2014. You can redeem your points for travel on May 2015 before June 30th. Note though after June 30th you can’t get the points back if you cancel the flight.

  23. I haven’t seen any space to put my KrisFlyer account #? Did I screw up. I had successfully signed up with Firefox (Chrome was having issues) by going from Krisflyer account all the way to checkout process at LifeLock. I hope it just tracks the Purchase/Transaction. Would appreciate if somebody confirms if I screwed up or if I’m OK.

THANKS GARY for the TIP about cheap Singapore Airline miles!!!

  24. @Joey….very clear….thanks…thanks for the new info gary as KrisFlyer has moved to the head of the UR airline list for me…….

  25. I just realized that I bought it using private browsing. Will that effect the tracking? If so, is there anything I can do?

  26. Thanks Gary for the tip.

    Unless I’m reading it wrong it’s 23K for $179 not 40K.

I’ve just bought a premium domain (or premium resale domain as NS call it) but I wonder if anyone has signed up yet for multiple new accounts off the one KrisFlyer account number? 6 sign ups = SYD LON in Suites for $1100++ 🙂

  27. This is clearly an error – if you click on the calculator link and put in the price of lifelock, which is $10, it shows that the points awarded as 1708. This looks like a decimal digit error to me…

  28. Com’on Krisflyer Spree, let us get the miles from this deal. Despite the reasonable redemption rates the fuel surcharge is way too high, in comparision to United and even AA, Iberia or Air Berlin. Example: flying FRA-NYC it’s a whopping 225 euros in addition to the miles redeemed. That comes to USD $306, which is basically the cost of one-way ticket EU-US for which you even earn miles. So, NO, it’s Not really a “too good to be true deal” for us, since we still have to pay outrageous fuel surcharges for all so called “free” award flights flying Singapore Airlines. Give us some sweet stuff sometimes.

  29. Just signed up for the LifeLock “increased bonus” (for the Premium Service .. free for 30 days, I’ll probably keep it for one more cycle to make sure it sticks). Secondly, why not try for the “VPS Hosting” monthly option? It allegedly also calls for a “higher bonus” and only costs $40/mo to try it out. Not sure how much more the bonus will be, but I definitely liked the idea of a smaller investment. Good luck! I did a bunch of screen prints to help backup my case , if neded.
