Lufthansa First Class Award Space Available!

Lufthansa first class award space is almost never made available to partner airlines more than 14 days in advance of travel. If you want to book Lufthansa first class you either need to be using Lufthansa’s own Miles & More points (they’re a transfer partner of Starwood Preferred Guest) or waiting until close-in to departure and changing flights.

However, via Don’t Call the Airline,

It looks like flights to and from Munich are sporadically available between now and September. I’ve seen it from Washington DC, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, and Charlotte.

Here’s a sample of availability on the Charlotte – Munich route for July:

Cost:

  • United (an instant transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards) charges 110,000 miles each way for US-Europe in Lufthansa first class.
  • Aeroplan (an instant transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards) charges 62,500 miles for US-Western Europe in Lufthansa first class, and adds fuel surcharges onto the awards.

It’s now wide open space, and it’s not cheap, but it’s availability that doesn’t happen.

Munich has a fantastic first class lounge. Some who want to simply have ‘done it’ visiting the first class terminal may want to fly Frankfurt – Munich – North America (or even Somewhere in Europe – Frankfurt – Munich – North America), or the reverse, because originating or connecting in Frankfurt same-day on a Lufthansa first class itinerary will allow for access.

In addition, some will want to pair this with Thai Airways first class award space and book a first class Asia via Europe award (and that outstanding Thai first class ground service in Bangkok).

  1. @ Gary

Can we get free connecting flight to Charlotte with same miles if using Aeroplan? for example: SFO-CLT- MUN?

  2. What if my flight from Frankfurt – Munich is in economy but Munich to North America is in first class. Do I still get access to first class terminal?

  3. I took too long to book and flights went away! Can you tell if pulled by Lufthansa or seats were filled? Had to settle for United business class but wondering whether I should have hope that LH First will open up 2 weeks prior to my flight.

  4. Huh? I see nothing in all of Aug or Sept in either direction. Was this a 1 hour sale?
