News and notes from around the interweb:
- The post-pandemic future of hotels is staff-lite
- Woman woke up to find $1 billion in her Chase account Another customer found themselves with $50 billion,
- Minute Suites (private rooms in the airport, Priority Pass gives you an hour) promotes that you can take off your mask. In some ways this is very bold advertising. Federal regulations require mask-wearing inside the airport. In a private room no one will know if you are unmasked, but the regulation still applies right?
They’re advertising that you can ‘break the law’. (Of course the federal transportation mask mandate shouldn’t be in effect any longer anyway.)
Minute Suites would appear to be an ‘exception to the mask mandate for airports.’ And they’re at Baltimore, Nashville, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Dallas – Fort Worth airports.
- Bankrupt Fairmont San Jose’s value tumbles
- Man arrested in Pennsylvania after TSA finds loaded handgun in baby stroller
- Alaskan regional carrier Ravn wants to transform itself into a long haul airline connecting the U.S. and Asia with Boeing 757s. Say what?
Here is the Ravn video on expanding to the Lower 48 & Asia with 757s (had to cut the last few seconds for length to upload). pic.twitter.com/wTrVHNeDXz

Gary. The problem we ran into with digital keys at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Hilton Minneapolis West, is that only my wife or me — not both of us — could have a digital key — not both of us. Do you know if hotels are working on fixing that problem?
I like the $50 billion dollar story. Look if you deposit say $5 and the bank gives you $5 billion that is okay. The next time somebody deposits $5 billion the bank can give them $5 and everything will balance out.
FWIW, I’m starting to see passengers and staff NOT wear masks in airports. If you show up at a TSA checkpoint not wearing a mask, it seems like they will ask you if you have one. I’m not sure what happens if you say you don’t — I assume they give you a mask, and tell you that you have to wear it.
@chopsticks – They’ll give you a mask and tell you you have to wear it.
Common sense would assume an exception to the airport mask mandate for hotel rooms (not that common sense applies to the Federal Government). Certainly you wouldn’t face a fine for not wearing a mask in your room at the Westin DFW or DEN. Minute Suites would seem to fall into that category.
300 people are still dying or Covid every day in your country. Get off your high horse Gary.
Your constant ranting about masks on planes seems to have become a bit of an obsession with you.
Wear a mask and travel.
@747always
Mask mandates don’t work and it is highly unlikely the folx who are dying from COVID-19 are getting infected while traveling. If you actually understood science, you’d get of your authoritarian high horse. Stay at home and never leave. Your existence is a threat to humanity and everyone around you is a threat to you.
Seems to me that if you concentrate non-mask wearers in one place, the gene pool will be improved at no risk for me. All good.
I am all for Darwin awards for those who do not get the vaccine, in my state 70% have had both shots compare to others who have had 25% the facts are in the death rates in those states. Masks on a plane just prevent me from being a carrier giving it to those who have not had the shots. Case in point is the municipal office that had 1 die and the rest infected while the one with the shot was fine. Darwin said only the best will survive and we are
@ Dillionyork. Darwin said no such thing.
