News notes from around the interweb:
- 7 SLH hotel properties are gone from Hyatt’s award chart and 14 have changed categories without notice. Disappearing hotels are in Italy, Greece, the UK, Switzerland, and Malaysia.
- A guard for former UK Prime Minister David Cameron (who hatched the idea of a Brexit referendum at a Chicago O’Hare Pizzaria Uno) left a gun in the lavatory of a New York – London Heathrow flight on Monday, godfather-style. That qualifies him to become a U.S. federal air marshal.
- DFW airport will spend $1.5 million a year on toilet paper. Too bad the renovation of terminal C won’t include a refresh of the restrooms.
- Data shows why United Airlines announced a pull out from Paine Field
- Online travel agency blatantly lying about other people searching the same hotel to scare you into booking quickly
[3/4] So what's your sophisticated pseudo-random algorithm?
Apparently, OneTravel are choosing a number between 28 and 45.
Because as you all know, based on serious psychological research, these numbers tend to make people book their flights fast #sarcasm #not42 >> pic.twitter.com/r2IrYhxr28— Ophir Harpaz (@OphirHarpaz) October 16, 2019
- Small Hyatt improvement: Hyatt is testing (with a small group of members) the ability to combine different rate types in a single reservation via their website. I always have my Hyatt Concierge (Globalist benefit) book reservations that include, say, points for one night and free night certificates for another because they can put it into a single reservation whereas I’d have to make separate reservations. Hyatt plans to roll this out later this month online, and then to the app weeks later.
This should save members from having to call when combining rates, and this will apply to paid rates too (“Primarily, this feature will focus on rate plans without restrictions including the World of Hyatt Member Rate, Standard Rate and other flexible rate plans. More rate plans may be added in the future but at this time to ensure consistency of benefits for entire stay and any cancellation policies, rates will be limited.”)
Do you think that this might drive them to change the terms so that you can apply Suite upgrades to reservations using free night certificates? It’s so frustrating to use a free night certificate and points (on separate reservations) and then either not use a suite upgrade (since FNCs can’t use them) or change rooms in the middle of a reservation (so relaxing on my vacation)?
@HT my guess is that this is unconnected, I don’t think there’d be any technical problem doing this now if they chose to do so
