News and notes from around the interweb:
- HotelSlash saves you on hotel stays in two ways. First, they have membership site discounted rates, and they pass on much of the savings to you, and second they track hotel prices and prompt you if rates fall in order to get you rebooked.
Sites like this have to charge for access to get around rate parity rules (in order to be allowed to offer prices lower than ‘book direct’ prices on hotel chain websites). So they say they’ll be charging in the future. But you can sign up free now and keep free membership for life. You might as well do that.
Also use promo code HSWELCOME for $10 off your first booking of $150 – $300, or $20 off if it’s for over $300.
- NoMad hotels was acquired by Hilton, but the Las Vegas property wasn’t included in the deal and will rebrand.
- The Points Guy is hiring an editor of sponsored content. It requires “the ability to balance TPG’s voice with sponsors’ requests and campaign goals.”
- Delta, maintain your planes.
… @Delta i have flown 10’s of thousands of miles on your planes ✈️ but todays flight #DL1666 was unacceptable this was above my head and the vent didn’t work and water dripping. UNACCEPTABLE pic.twitter.com/Z0y0GVGWSi

Something doesn’t add up –
“Free trial membership for a limited time”
That isn’t lifetime membership.
@rich I think the “free trial membership” refers to what you can get without the free4life promo code that’s currently available and will be the only free option once the promo code expires.
I haven’t looked at TPG in years, but it sounds like with this new person it’ll be a hoot, maybe I’ll start again.
I stayed at Nomad in LV last summer and even then it was pretty well known the “hotel in a hotel” would be rebranded. This had nothing to do with Hyatt leaving or Marriott coming in to partner with MGM (or Hilton’s recent acquisition of NoMad). Simply put MGM wanted to take over the space and put their own brand on it (like restricted upscale rooms/suites at Aria and MGM Grand) instead of licensing the Nomad brand. That is why it wasn’t included in Hilton’s plans because decisions had already been made it wouldn’t be a Nomad, under any circumstances, much longer.
Your promo code isn’t recognized. I signed up without the discount.
TPG and sponsored content? I just thought it was an unbiased blog from some travel guy. Huh.
Maybe they can find the bowtie guy and get him to do it.
What are “rate parity rules”?
I wonder if TPG application process specifically states that a complete lack of integrity is required.
If you book through HotelSlash, I assume you have the usual problem of getting none of your hotel status benefits?
