News and notes from around the interweb:
- Switch your country on the website to buy miles cheaper from Air France KLM’s Flying Blue.
- Perspective.
I once read about an 800 year old church in Norway that was built entirely of wood without using a single nail and it was celebrated as a masterpiece of ingenuity and craftsmanship, but you make one Boeing 737 Max that way and everyone loses their shit

- “When a resort area bans Airbnb, the only thing that happens is wealthy people get good deals on second homes that mostly sit around vacant”
- T-mobile rental car gas and charging perk.
@garyleff @OneMileataTime There's an interesting travel perk in the new T-Mobile rewards — free gas/charging on certain car rentals. Sure this will be taken advantage of and not last too long (and perhaps the rates are crazy too) but worth sharing https://t.co/hU8TsccCnF

- What do you do when the woman in your row on the plane keeps sticking her foot on your lap?
- Fontainebleau Las Vegas had initially resisted status matches, which is dumb because they don’t have their own list of gamblers to pull from (the way a new hotel that’s part of a casino chain would). They’ve fired a bunch of top executives. And now they are tier matching.
- Virgin Atlantic will match British Airways status to a higher tier than members have with Executive Club
- Even if it isn’t fair, this one is a little funny.
Sorry. Don’t find anything In that United video even remotely funny.
It’s all a knock on loving our neighbors and helping all qualified applicants especially those not ‘blessed’ with white supremacy 🙁
Video not cute.
Yikes, Gary. Its not becoming of you to share that video.
@Eric Michael – I am strongly on record saying that DEI is absolutely not a concern with airline pilot hiring. So someone poking fun at my position seems fair.
@ Gary — OK, but I still find reposting this video to be in poor taste.
The “trick” is to not buy miles.
Gene,
Whether it was the intent of the video or not, I think the video actually exposes the paranoia about and push against DEI as being ridiculous and having to rely upon nonsense to try to peddle an anti-DEI narrative. No dog is applying to be a pilot, and yet the video shows an applicant that is literally a dog.
It’s satire, not fair commentary, and I thought it was funny.
I thought the video was funny and spot on. No, I mean I want to know that the person flying the plane was hired because of what they think they are (in addition they to thinking they are qualified or, more likely, are entitled to be a pilot) and the boxes they check as a result of meeting the goal of diversity. Yes. Indeed. That whole white male patriarch thing only gave us flight and in a very short period of time the safest mode of transport in the world. Let’s try something different than what got us that for a bit and see how we can screw it up.
The video is hilarious. It’s a satiric joke and anyone that takes offense needs to grow up and stop being an overly sensitive, judgmental bully who can’t laugh at life. You’re offended? Pound sand.
Once a company commits to hiring diversity, they damn well Make sure that the diversity gets pushed through. Standards be damned.
Gary,
Don’t listen to all these retards. That United video was funny AF. Thanks for the laugh!
Gary has previously annoyed some posters for being OK with DEI in these specific cases. When you criticize him for linking to a video that makes fun of his own position you’re kind-a making the point for the critics of DEI.
Interesting information about South Lake Tahoe’s ban on Airbnb.
