Alaska Airlines is running a Starbucks Buy One Get One sale. Discount code Starbucks gets you a second coach ticket for just the cost of taxes and fees when you purchase by December 7, 2021.
- Travel period: January 5 – March 9, 2022.
- Travel days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday except that travel to Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, or Belize is valid Sundays through Wednesdays and travel from these places is valid Tuesdays through Fridays. (In other words for key leisure destinations you only get this deal when you probably don’t want to travel, but that’s also why they have excess seats to sell cheap.)
- Blackout dates: February 18–28, 2022.
Alaska Airlines is known for its $99 companion tickets. This is one of the best benefits of its co-brand credit card. But they’ve also used companion ticket offers to spur sales. During the pandemic it’s been a go-to strategy for the Seattle-based carrier (such as here here and here). They even toyed with it before the pandemic.
Most airline sales aren’t really sales, but this is legit. It’s a bit of an odd marketing play, though, since you don’t have to buy a Starbucks drink to get ‘buy one get one’. You don’t get a gift card for a drink when you buy one, get one. There’s no Starbucks tie-in whatsoever except, it would appear, some marketing dollars from Starbucks to cobrand the promotion.
This strikes me as a genuinely good deal if you’re traveling with someone in and out of Alaska Airlines cities – if you can make the date restrictions work. Unlike past offers they aren’t promoting 10% off first class or on days outside the restrictions though.

This is such a great deal that I was highly suspicious of it, but I just used it today and it actually worked! I booked two fares for Mar 1-9, entered the code, and blammo! I scored two round trip tickets from MSP to PDX for a total of $316! The best thing about it is that, as you point out, it does not require you to drink any Starbucks coffee (which I don’t like). But it runs out tomorrow, so if anyone wants to use it, do it now!
Does it have to be an Alaska metal?
I booked RT from FLL to LAX in January and February — $146 pp rt. Great deal. It ends 12/7.
