In what may be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen on a plane, the aastews Instagram account shared a kangaroo hopping down the aisle of an American Airlines flight, credited to flight attendant Bobby Weston, and described the flight from Charlotte to Newport News, Virginia where this took place as being “part of a wildlife conservation effort.”
Judging from the video it appears to be a on board a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet operated by PSA Airlines, which is an express carrier owned by American Airlines. PSA operates a daily ‘CR9’ between Charlotte and Newport News as flight AA5626.

Following on changes to regulations that were finalized by the Department of Transportation allowing airlines to crack down on emotional support animals, American no longer accepts emotional support animals, only service animals. So you’re unlikely to be able to bring a kangaroo of your own on board. Although perhaps once Australia’s border reopens and American’s joint venture with Qantas really ramps up, we’ll be seeing more people looking to bring their kangaroos.
I’ve reached out to American Airlines for comment on the kangaroo and will update if they share any additional details.
Update: American Airlines confirms,
As part of an animal conservation effort, the baby kangaroo did fly on American Airlines [passenger] flight 5626, operated by PSA Airlines, from Charlotte (CLT) to Newport News, Virginia (PHF) in the cabin along with his handler.
No mask on, the AA F/A’s will probably try to ban it for life!
Absurd
The bigger question is how did he get here from Australia?Where every man and woman has 4 in each household so it could be better understood 😉 🙂 Was he put on the no fly list too?
American is honoring ESAs on reservations made before January 11, 2021, through the end of the month.
Did the little roo get frequent miles on AA or on Qantas?
