News and notes from around the interweb:
- Last day: A simple comment on my blog may win you Hyatt points and Vegas experiences
- The Wall Street Journal on airline status matches. Wandering Aramean reports that JetBlue is now offering a status challenge to United, American, Delta, and US Airways elites. Here’s my rundown of the status match options offered by different airlines.
- Expedia used to offer a Best Rate Guarantee where they would match the qualifying price you found elsewhere and give you a $50 credit. Well, they’ve devalued…
- Does Allegiant “out-Spirit” Spirit Air?
- 1000 Free Citi Thank You points.
- Registration not yet available, but Hilton’s third quarter promotion will be double points during the week and triple points on weekends.
Gary,
I clicked through and it looks like the Expecia change was misunderstood.
While I would likely never fly Allegiant, they do have their advantages for family members.
From Boston I can fly JetBlue direct to South West florida to see my family there, but for my parents in maine or other family in Lexington its either a direct flight on Allegiant, in a MD83/7 or a connection with at least 1 leg on a regional jet that may or may not involve a walk down stairs to a tarmac, which is something challenging for people with age or disabilities.
It is as the article says “The easiest way to make money is not to compete with anyone” and when you want a direct flight, its worth it.
see the blurb;
as an elite you get bonus miles which help you get status faster!
Expedia did not devalue. It actually added value. The new program comes on top of the Best Rate Guarantee (which still awards you 50 USD). The information you picked up is wrong. It has been corrected in the original post you linked to, as well.
Hilton needs to offer like 5x points to make up for their devalued program. It’s about as hard to reach any decent rewards as the mycokerewards program 🙂
Gary,
I just got email from Virgin Atlantic. I signed us up for the Silver promotion (June 14). Now our accounts have been downgraded to RED. Anyone else get downgraded after signing up to the promotion???
