I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.
As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).
The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).
It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.
And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.
This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.
- Do you have different bags for different seasons?
- Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Here are the rules:
- You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.
- You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.
- All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.
- I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).
- The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.
- I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.
Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

1 I have one bag for all seasons.
2 I do not have different work/leisure bags.
No and No. Just have one bag.
No, one bag all year and for all seasons. Why mess with a good thing.
Thanks for the contest Gary!
1. I do not use different bags depending on the season
2. I do use a carry on when it’s business as it’s usually just me. But when vacationing, the wife and I share a checked bag
I live in California – there are no different seasons here 🙂 But really, I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I do have different bags for vacation vs. business. I use a carry-on duffel bag that holds a lot for vacations and a roller for business.
Do not different bags for different seasons. Yes, have different bags for vacation and work.
1. Same bags for all seasons.
2. Different bags depending mainly on length of trip and how much I carry.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do occasionally use my Eagle Creek adventure pack in place of my Travel Pro carry-on when going on a backpacking trip. So yes I do sometimes use different bags for work/leisure, depending on the type of leisure.
1) Nope.
2) Sort of. I have a really flimsy carry-on that I bought while living in the UK. It’s ultra-light, so I take it on leisure trips where I’m flying in Y on carriers that are really picky about carry-on weight. (A 7kg limit with a 2.5kg roller bag generally means you’re transporting a lot of air.) When flying carriers that don’t care so much or have higher limits, I have a sturdier bag. Those tend to be work trips.
1. Yes. I travel to east coast frequently, and during the winter my bags are a LOT heavier. So I have a bigger winter bag.
2. No.
I hope I win!
1. different seasons? Nope
2. different missions? Nope
I’m a big soft sided guy. I love duffels for travel in various sizes. BAD – Best American Duffel is my preference.
1. No bag for different seasons. There are no seasons in San Francisco! 2. I have bags for missions of different lengths: overnighter/day work bag, weekend bag, week-long trip bag.
same bags for all seasons
same bag for all missions
There are not enough seasons for all the bags I have, so the answer is “yes”I have different bags for different seasons.
I love bags and have many. Most are totes that fit under the seat. So again, the answer is “yes” to question two as well.
1 – same bag all year round.
2 – Different bags for work/vacation. Work bag is a small rollaboard. Vacation I have a large B&R case as most of my vacations are 10+days so need the extra space. Weekend break, I use a duffelbag.
Do you have different bags for different seasons? NO
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? YES
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but I definitely have different bags for different trips. I have a combo backpack/rollaboard for shorter business trips, a soft Rick Steves bag for longer trips and vacations, and a gargantuan American Tourister suitcase for times when I need to bring massive amounts of stuff one direction or the other.
No, I use the same type of bags regardless of season.
No, I use the same type of bags for all missions, i.e. vacation and business.
However, I do use bags of different sizes so that I can select a bag size for my length of trip and items needed. Thus, for long vacations, I would use a different bag from a 3 day business trip just as I would pack a smaller bag for a same length trip to a warm weather place vs. a cold weather place.
Same bag for all seasons.
Same bag for all trips.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, or for different missions. I do sometimes switch up the sizes though.
I use the same bag regardless of season or biz/personal travel. I never check bags.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do have different bags for different missions. My primary laptop bag nearly always comes along (currently a Tom Bihn Empire Builder, but previously a Trager Courier Laptop). I have a range of older Briggs and Riley Superlight rollers (21″ carry-on, 24″ medium and 26″ large) for more businesslike travel. A first-generation Patagonia Black Hole bag for big loads but keeping the weight under control. A 1998 Eagle Creek XL duffle for even more oversized loads.
1. Same bags, regardless of season
2. Different bags for work and leisure, and different bags for different work trips too. For leisure trips, I use a small Roots overnight bag that I bought a few years ago in Canada; for business I either use a Swiss Gear laptop backpack, a Tumi classic carry-on or a TravelPro rollaboard depending on the length of my trip.
No and no…same bag for everything
1. Do not have different bags for different seasons
2. Only have one bag for a travel
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but I do have different bags for types of travel – I save the nicer bag for when me and the wife go somewhere special.
Do not have different bags for different Seasons.
Do not have different bags for different missions.
Use a Rick Steves Roll aboard for all, but would like to try one of the new hard-sided spinners!
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I *do* have different bags for different purposes. My work carry-on is a small roller suitcase, and for vacation, I often go with just a backpack (I’ve gone two weeks in Central America and Southeast Asia respectively with just one schoolbag’s worth of things!).
1. Same bag all year round.
2. I use different bags for different occasions.
I use the same bag for all seasons
Definitely have different bags for different missions: travelling solo vs travelling with my wife! Also work travel vs pleasure.
I’ve never used a 4 wheel spinner so would love to try one!!
I do have bags for different seasons. Expandable for cold weather!
I do have bags for different missions. Small bags for MR’s & short trips, International compliant bags. A total of 23 from carry-ons to large spinners.
No hard sides! Sure would like a Torq to go with my 4 other B&R’s.
I use the same bag year round.
I do have bags for different missions – an overnight trip will often be one fairly tiny duffel. Otherwise I use something similar to a Rick Steves backpack. But I’ve been wanting to switch to a wheelie to give it a shot.
No seasonal difference unless it is winter and I’ve got my ski gear with me.
Yes, often use a different bag for work compared to leisure but not always. It depends more on distance and length of stay. Work is usually short while leisure is more days away from home.
◾Do you have different bags for different seasons? NO.
◾Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? NO.
Yikes I’m # 634!
Different season…..NO
Different reason……YES
Do I win for the rhyme?
1. No, I use my Tumi bags in all seasons.
2. Yes, I have different bags for different sorts of trips. Mostly they are: a) international-sized wheeled carry-on; b) weekend duffel; c) tri-fold suiter.
Good luck to me!
I use the same bag no matter the season.
I don’t switch bags based on the purpose of my trip.
Thanks for doing this
I use the same bag for all seasons and will vary what I carry depending on the length of the business trip or where we go on holiday and how we get there
I use one bag all year round.
I also have one bag total for both work and pleasure.
It is getting pretty beat up though.
no to both questions. (unless you count different sized bags depending on how much i pack!)
I use different size bags for different seasons due to clothing volume.
I do use different bags for different missions (work/vacation/field trips/overnight trip) or different places (eg. more/less crime destinations or reliability of air carriers in getting my bags to/fro) or different mode of transportation.
1. No
2. Yes, the one for work trips is more “professional looking”.
Not bags for different seasons,
But yes, different bags for work travel and pleasure travel (something more traditional vs something more… unique)
1. Yes.
2. Yes
Depending on length of the vacation…
1. No and 2. No
Mostly, I choose my bag based on what I am bringing.
1. Nope, one bag rules them all.
2. Sometimes go a little lighter, so yes — mix it up for business and vacation.
1. NO
and
2. NO
That is why I need to win this!
1. Yes I use a hard shell in the winter, cloth at other times
2. Yes, but dependent on the length of time I will be away
No and no unfortunately. On the bright side, it keeps things nice and simple.
No to both
