Comment Here And You May Win a Briggs & Riley TORQ Bag

I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.

As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).

The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).

It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.

And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.

This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.

  • Do you have different bags for different seasons?
  • Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?

Here are the rules:

  • You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.

  • You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.

  • All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.

  • I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).

  • The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.

  • I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.

Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

  1. 1) Bag stays the same with the seasons but what goes in it changes. I generally travel with my seemingly indestructible Mandarina Duck roll aboard and satchel. The roll aboard is nearly 10 years old at this point.

    2) I’ll sometimes drop the roll aboard if I’m checking a bag, more often for vacation. That said I’ve be burnt enough times with delayed bags that if the itinerary is in any way complex I’ll pack a couple of days in the roll aboard (plus anything valuable like a suit, if I’m taking one).

  2. 1. Yes, live in NYC and in bad weather a rolling suitcase gets gross – use a carried bag so it fits under umbrella
    2. No – just different bags for different weather

  3. 1.No–I do not use different bags for different seasons.
    2. No–I no longer travel for work.
I sure do need a new bag! Mine is way too heavy.

  4. 1. No
    2. For work I use a rollaboard. For vacation it depends on the length for the trip.

  5. No and no. I use whatever bag is currently my favorite for everything, whether that’s work, vacation or “other.”

  6. 1. Same bags for every season
    2. Definitely different bags for different missions! The bags I use vary with the purpose of the trip (business vs. leisure) and duration.

  7. No and No.
Can’t see why a bag would change with the season. Unless I was making a fashion statement and that would be a WHOLE new bundle of problems that would take more than a change of luggage to fix! I use a Briggs and Riley that I have had for 10+ years for both travel and leisure. Used the warranty once to have a repair and they were great. I pack as lightly as possible (see fashion problem above) so I find I need as much for a weekend as I do for a 3 week trip. As a result, I am the schlub you see wheeling the beat up but still stylish B&R through the airport in yet again, all black clothing.

  8. No, I do not use a different bag for different seasons. I do carry a carry on size roller board for work since trips are only a few days max. For vacations I usually require a larger suitcase.

  9. 1. No, I use the same bag for all seasons.
    2. And, I use the same bag for all travel missions, whether professional or vacation travel.
    Love the giveaway!

  10. No and No

Briggs & Riley are like an Amex Card, never leave home without one.

Mine looks as good today as when I purchased it.

  11. 1. I do not have different bags for different seasons.
    2. I DO use different bags for work/leisure travel. I use a more durable bag for work as it will be tossed around every other week. I keep my “good” luggage for the occasional personal trip.
Love the opportunity to try this brand!

  12. I do not have a bag for different seasons,
    I do not have very good reasons;

I do not have a different bag for work and leisure,
    To do that might give me a seizure;

I do not like green eggs and ham,
I do not like them Sam I Am.

  13. I have one bag I use year-round.

When I vacation, I tend to be a bit more adventurous than I am in my work travel, so my go-to bag is my internal frame Eureka backpack.

  14. I use the same bags year-round.

I use the same style of bags for vacation and work, and mainly just choose the size to match the duration of my stay.

  15. 1. I dont have a bag for different seasons
    2. Kind of – I generally travel with a bigger bag that I check on leisure trips

  16. No. Same bags for all seasons

I have one carry on sized bag used for anything under 10 days. I have one duffle bag I use for some internaltional trips

  17. No, I don’t change for the seasons.

Yes, for Business I travel in a laptop bag, but for personal I use a hard-shelled roller.

  18. –I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
–I do have different bags for different missions — both business vs. leisure and, of course, for different types of trips within those categories (length, etc.).

    Thanks!

  19. 1. Yes I change bags based on seasons. I carry a larger bag in Winter
    2. I only travel for vacation since I am retired and vary the bag size by length of trip and season.

  20. 1. No

    2. I do have different sized/style bags, depending on how much and what I need to pack.

  21. 1. I do not have different bags for different seasons.
    2. I use different bags depending on the trip length but I typically do not use a different bag for business trips and leisure.

  22. Hey Gary! Sign me up for this contest!

    1) no, I don’t have different bags for different seasons
    2) yeah, I have different bags for vacation and work. When I’m on vacation I usually have a large bag that I check, while when I travel for work, I have a carry on

  23. No and No. We just have one suitcase that gets used and abused in every season, no matter why we are flying.

  24. I don’t have different bags for different seasons.

However, I do use different bags for different missions. I use a rather funky skull bag to attend writing conferences for example.

  25. Different bags for different seasons? No — do people really do this?

Different bags for work/leisure? Main carry-on is the same rollaboard; persoanl item is different (man-purse vs. backpack).

  26. I do not have bags for different seasons. I do not have different bags for business vs leisure travel because I don’t travel for business. I do however have various bags for different types of leisure travel. For example one that I can fit my folding bicycle in.

  27. Do you have different bags for different seasons?
    – Nope, I’m not that stylish!

Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
    – No again, I can use my current set as both

  28. I don’t have different luggage for different seasons. I do not travel for business so don’t have specific bag for that. Perhaps it’s time for a job change!

  29. 1. I do not have separate bags for different seasons
    2. I do not travel for business so no business bag

  30. I never even thought about different carry-ons for different seasons. I might check luggage for winter if I was skiing, but then I might do that if I were scuba diving. But for carry-on, it never occurred to me.

Not really though for work I mostly just use a carry-on that will fit a few shirts and a jacket.

  31. I don’t have different bags for different seasons but I do have different bags for travel and business. Travel for business usually only requires a carry-on and travel for vacations usually requires a larger, check-able piece as my vacations are (thankfully) longer than business trips.

  32. 1. Not for different seasons necessarily, but bulkier clothes means choosing bigger bags in the winter.

    2. My bags are a beat up old REI backpack that can be used alone for a weekend trip, and a small rolling duffle bag that can fit anything. I just got a Briggs & Riley CX rollaboard, which will replace the duffle bag on nearly every trip.

  33. 1. I don’t have different bags for different seasons.

    2. I do have different bags for different missions: nice rollaboard for week-plus-long trips; simple duffle for weekend leisure and jumbo check-in bag for longer trips (several months for work).

  34. No different bags for seasons. No different bag for work or leisure.

  35. I don’t seasonal bags.

I do have different bags for different types of travel – car, plane, walking, etc.

  36. 1. I do not have different bags for different seasons.
    2. I do not have different bags for vacations vs. business travel.
