I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.
As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).
The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).
It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.
And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.
This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.
- Do you have different bags for different seasons?
- Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Here are the rules:
- You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.
- You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.
- All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.
- I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).
- The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.
- I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.
Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

Use lighter, shoulder bags during the summer (when fewer clothes are needed) and heavier bags during the winter
Different bags for camera equipment on vacations vs. none on business travel
1. Do you have different bags for different seasons? No, I use one carry on and one to-check bag (both fairly cheap, bought at online discount sites)
2. Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Again, no, except that most business trips entail just the carry-on while vacations are typically with checked larger bag.
Thanks and I hope I win!
1) No bags for different seasons
2) No bags for different missions either. Although I’ve got several size carry-on’s to choose from depending on the length of stay, and several size large bags to check if needed!
I use the same bags all year round, no matter the season and the same bags get used for both work and vacation. Something that should probably change!
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
My work bag tends to be a little smaller than vacation bag – generally due to length of trip (vacations are longer)
I do not carry different luggage for different seasons.
I do have different bags depending on the nature of my travel and the destination.
1. No, I pretty much use the same bag regardless of season.
2. Depending on the length of my trip and whether I’m bringing items/gifts to my destination, I’ll alternate between a small carry on bag and a large bag that I’ll check.
I’m monogamous when it comes to bags: one bag, no matter the season, no matter the travel reason. However, I’m a recent widower, with my much-traveled Samsonite rollerboard breaking a wheel. So I’m looking for new love. Hoping for a chance to romance the Briggs & Riley TORQ.
I don’t have a bag for different seasons – just one set. I do have an additional work bag to take when on a business trip.
It’s not luggage, but I use a different handbag for winter versus summer.
I do try to use more professional looking bags when I’m travelling for business, but I don’t do it very often, so I don’t have many professional carry-on bags. This would help!
1. No, I have one bag and have been using it for 10 years. It’s like a close friend.
2. No, see above.
Of course, all good things eventually come to an end, so it would be great to have this B&R to start working into the rotation!
I don’t change up my bags with the seasons.
I do not travel for work. I usually take a standard black rolling bag for most weekend travel. However, on trips where I must check a bag (usually hiking or SCUBA related), I take a small hiking daypack instead.
I do not have different bags for different seasons. That being said, I am more likely to use my slightly larger bag in the winter to handle the extra bulk of clothes.
I do have different bags for work and personal travel, but sometimes i blur the line and switch them up.
1. No, I usually travel to a different season so I need a bag for all seasons.
2. Yes, I travel with my family for personal trips vs. alone for business trips.
1. No. But I should.
2. No. But I should.
I use the same bag for all seasons. Why not? It’s a Briggs & Riley.
If I’m going away for a romantic weekend I use a bag in a brighter or a softer color, cos I’m not “all business”. This TorQ looks just the thing for that…. I’d have it in the blue.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons (I wish, haha).
I do use a different bag for different missions though. My Deuter Traverse carry-on is more friendly to the business clothes/shoes than the leather Fossil weekender bag I use for family/leisure trips.
I only have 1 travel Tumi
I have 1 Tumi for work clothes and 1 Tumi for play clothes.
1. I don’t have different bags for different seasons
2. I do have different bags depending on the purpose of my trips.
a. Vacation usually means sharing a checked bag with my wife…separate carry-ons
b. Business trip will normally mean a carry-on and a computer bag
c. International travel (business/personal) that are normally associated with mission work…I take many bags…some duffel bags. In order to carry support materials along. The duffel bags can carry items for orphanages, etc. and then be stuffed into one empty checked bag for the trip home.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I only have 1 bag so it has to serve me for all missions.
I currently do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do use different bags for different missions.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons (but I would not use a soft case when traveling to a rainy country).
Like most of others, yes I have bags for different missions, but it seems I use my business travel bags on personal trips as well sometimes.
Question 1: No
Question 2: No
1. Nope. Same bag for all seasons.
2. Nope. Same bag for all missions.
I do not have different seasonal bags. In fact, I wasn’t aware that this was a thing. Do I want my clothes to be comfortable and at the right temperature?
I do not have different luggage for personal or work. Though, I’ll admit that I bring a checked bag for personal a lot more than for work.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons and I don’t travel for work so I use the same bags….might be different sizes depending on length of trip though.
I use the same bag for all seasons.
As far as mission, since I am a USAF pilot, you could definitely say I have different bags for different missions. I have an overnight bag for short missions and big, tan colored, rolling bags for deployments. If ya’ll think commercial baggage handlers are bad, USAF loadmasters and boom operators are the worse!
No and no, one bag usually works for everything. Although sometimes leisure demands something else.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but I do have different bags for business and pleasure. More difficult to roll into a business meeting with a bright red suitcase. But the red definitely helps for finding your bag at baggage pickup!
No, don’t have different bags for different season.
Yes, will usually use a nicer carry-on for work travel instead of Patagonia bag.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons or purposes!
I have the same travel bags for all seasons. I vary it depending only on how much I’m going to bring with me aka the length of the trip.
For work I usually bring a smaller bag, even a small duffle, and for longer vacations I have a shoulder bag and a suitcase, and I pick from those depending on how much I’m bringing.
It depends on the trip, the right bag for the right job!
no and no.
#1 I do not have different backs for different seasons
#2 I do have different bags for business and pleasure.
Thanks for doing this contest!
I do not have different bags for different seasons, but I do use different bags for business and leisure travel. It’s mostly a matter of formality.
1. No, same bag for all seasons
2. No, only one mission in life and business travel is not one of them …yet.
Do you have different bags for different seasons?
Nope – not that anal yet!
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
No since almost all of my trips are purely pleasure
Same bag. I have an all season bag.
Different bag based on length of stay or how much I need to carry. But not based on vaca/work.
No and No – one bag for all
Do you have different bags for different seasons?
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
1) For the most part I use the same bags across all seasons. The exception would be luggage that is function specific (e.g. skiing in winter).
2) I have certain bags I use for each but it’s more dependent on the size of the bag than mission. My personal trips are longer than business so I use a larger bag for vacations.
1. No
2. Yes, one Tumi for work and one Samsonite for leisure.
I use the same bag for business and leisure and same bag year-round
Love B&R, and I’ve been waiting for them to do a hard-sided one! I pretty much use the same bag, regardless of season and regardless of work/personal travel. (More complex itineraries may change that, but if I have to check, I check the same larger bag, again regardless.
Yes and yes. I have a lot of luggage because I travel a lot, to very different places and for very different purposes. I have smaller bags for summer/hot climate travel, because the clothes I take on those trips require less space. I also have bags that are better for carrying work clothes (e.g., semi-rigid luggage with sections to protect hanging clothes) and bags that are better for casual/hiking clothes (e.g., duffles). The one thing I DON’T have is a hard-sided spinner bag. I would love to try one.
Same bag for all seasons.
Same bag for all trips leisure or business.
We use the same couple of bags for almost all trips, even overnighters – then we only use one. On an overnight, even though the back is large we put both our stuff into it along with our pillow.
We just recently started buying Briggs & Riley (have one) and would love to have a spinner!
My business trips are typically short so I use a carry-on size luggage vs. leisure trips are typically over a week so I’ll use a much larger suitcase. Same bags every season though.
1. No, I use the same bags all year round.
2. No, I only have 1 set of bags.
Gary, thanks for the offer – i would love to win the bag. I currently use a Tumi Tech
I do not intentionally vary bags by season; however,I tend to use a smaller suitcase (20 in) in the summer months. Experience tells me I will pack to capacity so I try to stick to the smaller bags. Esp w/all the RJs.
I totally use different bags for for my 110k miles/yr with an even split of vacation and business, I have my “serious” rollabooard for potential client interface and then a colored hardcase for personal travel.
Just coveted a B&R Torq last week at CMH. I like that B&R figured out that travelers need a place for a magazine, newspaper, etc. in a hardcase. And the other traveler, while hanging on tight to his bag as I eyed it, raved about the lifetime warranty.
