Comment Here And You May Win a Briggs & Riley TORQ Bag

I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.

As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).

The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).

It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.

And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.

This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.

  • Do you have different bags for different seasons?
  • Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?

Here are the rules:

  • You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.

  • You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.

  • All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.

  • I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).

  • The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.

  • I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.

Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

  1. I have one pathetic old bag I use for everything – all seasons, and all travel (not that i do any business travel…) I was actually looking at new luggage just yesterday, and dreaming of an upgrade.

  2. 1. No
    2. Have two different bags I use depending on the length of the trip but do not vary based on business or leisure

  3. 1 – Not really for different seasons
2 – Definitely for different reasons! I have a stack of luggage for different travel – rollaboard with pc pocket, rollaboard for small trips, fancy duffel bag for overnight trips on region jets that fits in the small overheads, and a big bag to check when going on long trips.

  4. I do not have a different bag for different seasons.

I also do not have a different bag for work and pleasure.

I have a couple of Briggs & Rileys, so they work in both roles.

  5. I use the same bags for Biz and Leisure. My luggage choice is based on the length of the trip, the smaller the better on short trips. I do like the look of a hardside, always nice to be able to check when needed and keep the contents protected.

  6. 1. No bags for different seasons, do my clothes get cold in the winter?
    2. I have 1 carry on for short trips and 1 larger bag for longer trips regardless of whether it is for business or pleasure.

  7. I use the same bag for all seasons, good luggage can handle all climates.

For business I use my conservative Tumi luggage, for pleasure I have a cool Turkish carpet bag that I love. Would definitely love to replace them with this!

  8. 1.Same bags for all seasons.

2.I do have different bags for different occasions, I have a short vacation one, a large camping backpack for longer travels, and a nicer suitcase for business travel

  9. 1. I do not have different bags for different seasons. I am a simple man.

    2. For travels? Yes, I have a big backpack for longer trips and a small backpack for shorter trips. For real short trips I have a messenger bag.

  10. 1. same bag for all seasons!
    2. smaller carry-on for shorter/business trips and bigger check-in bag for longer vacations.

  11. 1. Don’t have a different bag for different seasons.

    2. One bag for both business/leisure. but if i win, this will surely change!

  12. 1) I don’t have different bags for different seasons.

    2) I DO have different bags for different missions. A B&R rolling suiter for short sales-type trips where I need a suit or two, and a wide body carry-on for general travel.

  13. 1. Same bag all year round.

    2. Don’t travel for work anymore so it’s the same bag for all trips.

  14. 1. I have a variety of bags but use them according to need more than the season I’m traveling in.
    2. I choose the bag according to the length of the trip more than the mission.

  15. I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but …

I do have different bags for work versus leisure: when I’m flying for work, I normally have nice clothes that I want to protect in a rollaboard or a garment bag. When I’m flying for fun, I’m usually carrying a duffle packed with outdoors gear.

  16. I use the same bag for all seasons.

Leisure I tend to use my big backpack where business I use a roll aboard.

  17. 1. Yes! My summer clothes are less bulky so I can use a smaller bag.
    2. For work trips, I need a garment bag. For vacation, as many beach clothes as I can cram into my suitcase!

  18. I use same luggage for work and leisure, and do not vary it by season. I find my packing needs don’t vary much if at all on either dimension… but having multiple bags (which I did in the past) certainly does clutter up my house, since for most of us the most common state of a piece of luggage is taking up space in a closet somewhere.

  19. 1. I don’t have seasonally-changing bags (but the shoes in them…that’s a whole different kettle of fish!) as I have had my good old standby Hartmann for what seems like a lifetime.

    2. But I do change bags for different missions…work is almost always the above referenced Hartmann carry-on even though its old two-wheeled technology sometimes means I’m dragging it rather than rolling it. Leisure ranges from a duffel to the “sure-to-be-spotted-as-a-tourist” oversized behemoth that I swear I’ll never carry again, and then do.

  20. 1. No.
    2. I try to travel as light as possible! I only use my large trolley on transcontinental, long-term trips!

    Thanks

  21. Do you have different bags for different seasons? – Not for seasons. California doesn’t have seasons!

Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? I have an Ogio backpack for personal trips(I pack light) and a roller for business.

  22. I use the same bags no matter what season it is, unless there is a good chance of snow being on the ground. Then I try to pack light and avoid a roller bag.

I do bring different bags depending on the stay. For a typical week trip it is a “typical” carry on and my main stay SWISS backpack to hold all the important items. On shorter day and overnight trips I bring a large laptop-bag that can hold my clothes and toiletries.

  23. 1. I don’t have bags for different seasons.

    2. I use the same bag for travel/work.

  24. 1. Same bags all season
    2. Different bags for different missions and I have totally worn out my work carry on. It won’t zip closed without several attempts.

  25. 1) Same bag for different seasons (unless you count my ski bag).

    2) Same bag for work and for leisure. But different bags for different trip lengths.

  26. Do you have different bags for different seasons? Nope!

Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? I ususally use a small roller for personal and a larger one for business trips.

  27. 1- Yes, depending on destination.
2- I have several types to choose from depending on mission at hand.

  28. 1. I use the same bags for all of the seasons.
    2. I have certain bags for work related trips since I need to have space for technology needs and suits, and other bags which are perfect for sports equipment and casual clothes.
Most of my bags are Briggs and Riley, since they are well engineered and they always make repairs for damage. Some of my bags have traveled tens of thousands of miles and continue to work well, but are showing their age. It will be nice to have a new one to add to the collection.

  29. I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but I definitely keep a “work” bag and a “personal” bag, each pre-filled with certain accoutrements.

  30. I must say, I have been fascinated with carry on bags that provide lifetime warranty or even warranty that lasts 10 to 15 years. I have had a couple of these bags, but they have not really survived that period of time of warranty, but I have also not tried to enforce the warranty so far. Coming to the questions,

    1. I do not have different bags for different seasons.
    2. I would probably check in an extra bag, when I am traveling with the family versus me traveling alone. Usually, there is no difference in my own bag between travel for work or leisure.

  31. I don’t necessarily have different bags for different seasons, but I do have different bags for different missions! Probably too many! I have work bags, vacation bags, backpacking/hiking bags, triathlon/sports-specific bags, weekender bags.

  32. I only have different bags for different seasons because winter clothing is so much bulkier and takes up more space than summer clothing, so I can use a smaller bag when I pack sandals instead of boots.

I have a garment bag for work that I rarely use for leisure travel.

  33. 1. No, 2. No. I found one bag I like and I use it for everything. Too picky to find two winners!

  34. 1. Seasons do not matter.

    2. I do use different bags depending on the length of the trip, but not for business/leisure.

  35. I have one bag for all seasons.

I don’t get to travel for work; I only have the one bag for any travel!

I’d love another bag – pick me!

  36. No seasonal bags for me. But I do have a separate bag that I carry for my items if I need to do work on a trip. Often reference materials.

  37. I do not use seasonal travel bags. I do have my backpack for the laptop when I need to work. That bag probably needs an upgrade – bit unprofessional.

  38. While my business travel typically, whatever the season, with a rollaboard, I will tend to use a larger one (still carry-on size) in winter so I can stow my coat in it (when going through security or when arriving in a warmer climate). In the warmer months, the smaller rollaboard is most often used.

When going on vacation, usually it means checking a bag–flying WN or an airline where status means no bag fees. In contrast, I try to keep it to carry-on size when traveling for work.
