I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.
As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).
The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).
It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.
And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.
This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.
- Do you have different bags for different seasons?
- Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Here are the rules:
- You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.
- You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.
- All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.
- I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).
- The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.
- I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.
Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

I do NOT have different bags for different seasons
I do have different bags for fun vs work. Although I almost always take the Laptop bag wherever I go.
1. I don’t have bags for different seasons.
2. I have different bags for different missions. I have luggage I bring if I’m going on vacation for a while. I have a carry-on bag that I primarily use for week-long trips. And I have a large travel back pack. I use that if I’m in a country where I need many items but can’t easily transport luggage.
1. No, do not have different bags for different seasons
2. No, do not have different bags for work vs. vacation
No differentiation according to seasons. Just a smaller bag for short trips and a big bag for long trips. Thanks!
01. I use the same bag all year. :/
02. More backpack for personal, more briefcase more business.
Thanks for hosting this!
No, I do not have different bags for different seasons.
No, I do not have different bags for vacation and work.
No reason for me to have seasonal luggage. I have a slightly gaudy bag for stays up to a week. I see it as theft deterrent. My bigger bag is more of a duffel for hauling stuff back home for Christmas, etc.
Do you have different bags for different seasons? Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
No to both – I have different bags for different trip durations.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do not have different bags for work/leisure, however my travel for work is limited.
1) Yes – winter bag is expandable for those heavier winter clothes.
2) Leisure is same bag as business with the suits substituted with shorts and tshirts.
I use different bags but mot dependent on season. Work I use a jansport or Timbuktu messenger bag and work use a tumi wheeled carry on.
Works for me. thanks!
1. No, I do not have different bags for different seasons.
2. No, I use the same bags for work or vacation travel, with only variations due to length of the trips.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
However, the bag for vacation is significantly larger than the one for work.
1. I use the same bag all year.
2. I sometimes use a backpack for short, personal trips, but I use the same suitcase for all other trips.
Different seasons? No. But definitely for different kinds of trips. Actually I have 4 different bags for short/medium/long trips. And again no to the separation – really depends on the length of the trip more than the purpose.
1. No
2. Yes. One for travel and another for sports purposes
1. no
2. Sometimes take a bigger carryon in the winter if need more bulky stuff
1. I have just one main travel bag in carryon size
2. I use it for vacations or business
1. Don’t use different bags for different seasons of travel.
2. Do have different bags for business and pleasure travel: biggest bag is for family travel. (Wife always needs space in my bag to pack her overflow.)
Question: how light are these Briggs bags? I’m really looking for a light wheeled bag.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I do use different bags for work versus personal travel. Briggs & Riley is a favorite for work travel; using a Briggs & Riley garment bag for a short work trip right now.
Do you have different bags for different seasons? No, I typically just travel with a Helly Hansen backpack/duffle bag.
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? I have a Samsonite carry on that can fit 2 days worth of clothes, but need to “up a little” in the professional traveler department. :/
Do you have different bags for different seasons? No
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? yes – never hold luggage for business, almost always hold luggage for leisure
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I don’t have different bags for work/leisure.
My current bag’s zipper recently tore into the lining so it would be awesome if I could replace it with this one!
1. No, seasons don’t matter much in what I pack
2. Yes, leisure v personal means I pack differently
1. No, I do not have different bags for different seasons.
2. And nope, my beat up luggage goes with me whether it’s a work trip or a leisure trip!
I do not have different bags for different seasons, nor different bags for work or vacation. I do have two different bags and alternate based on the state of the bags’ disrepair and corresponding level of shame I will feel on each trip.
I don’t use different bags for different seasons.
I do use different bags for different types of travel.
1. Yes. I use a smaller case in the summer months, and a larger one for the rest of year (more bulky coats, boots etc), although my bigger case was “terminated” by baggage handlers last trip.
2. Yes. I have a smaller and better-looking case for work trips (3-4 days) and then a big older case for vacations which tend to be 7-10 days and include lots of bashing by the bag handlers.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I have different bags for business clothes and safety gear (hard hat, boots, etc) so I keep things that get muddy and dusty seperated.
Do you have different bags for different seasons? – No
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Yes – if regional jets are involved I’ll often travel with a small soft duffel. If not, the B&R Upright garment bag is my go to. Vacation travel will change the ball game entirely and I’ll take whatever will hold enough for my wife to be happy!
1 No. I do not see any need for different bags in different seasons.
2 No. One bag rule them all.
Different bags for different things? What a concept!
1. Same bag for every day of the year
2. Same bag for everything I do
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, although if I am going somewhere really cold then I might actually check a bag with my parka and such.
I do have different bags for business and leisure. Business is the good looking bag that says “successful businessman” while leisure is the beat up bag that says “don’t steal from me or charge me the rich man rate”
1. I do not have different bags for different seasons per se, but will more often check for longer trips in winter where the 22″ just isn’t big enough with the extra layers.
2. I have 3 different bags and all have their purpose: 22″ Victorinox suiter – workhorse for business travel carry-on, 19″ Tumi for overnights and international carry-on, 25″ Victorinox for long trips/vacation bag.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do not have different bags for different missions.
I wish I traveled enough to justify specialized bags, but as of now I only travel for leisure. As such I only have two bags: one carry on size one medium check in. Depending on the length of stay or if I need to pack extras that would exceed the ‘one personal item’ rule, then I will use the check in.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I also don’t have different bags for work/leisure.
No
No
Use different bags for different trip lengths. That is really the only underlying factor.
■Do you have different bags for different seasons?
■Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
1. I have a heavier bag for winter travel (in snow)
2. I do have different abgs for work and play. Play is a backpack.
1. No, I don’t have a separate bag for different seasons.
2. I don’t travel much for work, so no second bag for work/vacation.
Thanks Gary!
1. No, same bag for all seasons.
2. No, same bag for all purposes.
The answer to both questions is no. I use the same luggage for business and pleasure.
Recently bought some new Olympia luggage to replace our cheapo JC Penneys red cloth stuff that was falling apart. Love the 3 piece Olympia Castle set, but I also bought an Olympia Titan carryon roller so my wife and I would each have an upgraded carryon.
Even though they should be identical aside from the exterior side styling, the Titan’s wheels are awful and don’t swivel properly, so I could really use the Briggs & Riley bag! 🙂
1. I don’t have a different bag for different seasons.
2. I do use different bags depending on the type of trip I’m on.
I don’t have bags for different seasons. Do people really do that?
I don’t have different bags for work and personal travel.
No and No… For me it just depends on length of time!
I do have 2 sizes of bag based on the trip length and season.
I do not have a personal vs. work bag.
I do not have different bags for different seasons
i do have different bags for work, due to what i need.
I have different bags depending on work or play, season, duration, etc.
I have two bags: big and small, and they work for all seasons and for all work and leisure travel. The deciding factor for me is how long I’m going to be gone and how much I need to carry. Usually this consists of trying to cram as much as humanly possible into “small” so I don’t have to check a bag.
This would be a nice upgrade for “small.” Thanks for the contest.
Different bags for different seasons – No.
Different bags for different missions – No.
Though I do take different bags based on the length of the trip.
I do not have different bags for different seasons per se.
I use a few different bags for business and pleasure. I did get rid of my cheap junky bags but O don’t have anything high end either. What I finally realize is that less is more. I pack a lot less than I used to and that has nothing to do with costs of checked baggage since I always get that for free or carry on. On overseas travel I take a lot less than I used to as well. I find hotel rooms especially in Europe can be small and bellmen are weak. Cabs have small trunks often. In Japan I paid a few bucks and my bag was shipped to my next hotel and that was a great system.
