I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.
As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).
The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).
It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.
And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.
This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.
- Do you have different bags for different seasons?
- Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Here are the rules:
- You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.
- You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.
- All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.
- I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).
- The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.
- I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.
Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

1. Same bags for all.
2. Different bags depending mainly on length of trip.
1. Nope.
2. Yes; it depends on how much moving about I’ll be doing while away.
■Do you have different bags for different seasons? Yes, it helps to have a bag for beach trips (and the sand that inevitably gets into it).
■Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Yes
I do not have a bag for different seasons.
I have different bags for different missions. I’ve a SwissGear 25″ spinner for longer trips, a 22″ Samsonite spinner for shorter trips, a 20″ Samsonite spinner as a laptop carryon, and a Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag for when I’m traveling with the larger bags and need my electronics with me. I also have a really large 29″ suitcase that rarely sees use except for long vacations.
No
Yes, Vacation I upsize to fit baby stuff in with mine.
1. Nope, same bags for all seasons.
2. A small bag for overnighters, and another for 2+ nights that gets the brunt of the work.
1) No seasonal bags, all bags are used all year around
2) Different bags for different durations, no differentiation if it’s for work or play. Just need the place to hold stuff
1. Only one bag all year round
2. Same bag for all missions but sometimes remove the suitor for vacation vs. work
1, Different bags for seasons-No
2, Different bags for different purposes-of course. I am one of the few that still has an EZ Cart, a pattented 4 wheel design that caused the bag to be a bit oversized regardless of what you argue. It goes on car trips and Premium class where they let it slide (roll).
1) NO.
2) Yes. I use Travelpro
1 – nope, only use one bag
2 – mope, still only use one bag
1. No, same bag for all seasons!
2. Yes, depends if my kids are traveling with me.
1. I do not have different bags for the seasons.
2. I do not have different bags for work and leisure – One good sturdy bag is all I use.
1. No, and you never should have put that idea in my head.
2. I have one small bag for 1-2 nighters, a carryon with wheels for trips lasting 3-4 days, and a checkin bag if going for a long trip, if it’s winter and I need more packing space, or I am planning on bringing back home lots of things that I accumulate during my trip (think MegaDO swag).
The new B&R TORQ looks awesome and I could put it to great use. I even bet it would be my new favorite bag.
1, I do not have different bags for different seasons
2, I do use different bags depending on the duration of my stay and reason for travel. Ie. Golf and or dive bag on vacation, big Ful bag for long international trips and Tumi for short hauls.
No I don’t have a different bag for different seasons.
I do have a different bag for different trips. If its a quick trip, and its personal ill carry on in a smaller bag. If its for work or a longer trip I will bring out the bigger stuff.
Thanks for doing this!
1. Same bag for all seasons, though I use different bags depending on whether it’s a domestic or international trip.
2. Same bag as I no longer travel for work.
I use a small Coach bag for short overnight trips. On longer trips I take a larger bag. It’s not really a seasonal thing more a time gone thing.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do have different bags for work vs.leisure travel.
1 – I definitely do not bother with different bags for different seasons, 2 – but do change bag colors according to which airports I will be traveling through.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do have different bags for work/leisure!
Same bag(s) regardless of seasons.
Different bags sometimes based on length of stay and/or distance traveled.
1) I never change bags due to season
2) I change bags according to my needs and which countries I am visiting. Certain countries you really need your bag color or style to stand out; others no way.
1- I use the same bag for all seasons.
2- I use the same bag as I don’t travel for work.
1. No.
2. No. Dont travel enough to justify more than one set of bags
1. Yes. I have a wider carry-on that gets gate checked more but that can handle my winter jackets. In summer, I use a thinner bag since my light-dresses fit in there just fine.
2. Yes, I use spinner suitcases for work, but sometimes use regular pull suitcases on vacation.
1. No.
2. No, I only have a small and large suitcase.
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do not have a different bag for work/leisure (as I don’t travel for work) but I do have different bags for different types of trips (ie, larger bags for longer international trips).
1. I do not have different bags for different seasons. I have a separate snowboarding bag for snowboarding specifically though.
2. I have a single carry on I use for all missions except that I may bring an additional larger suitcase for leisure
No and no.
Simple, isn’t it?
I do not have different bags for different seasons.
I do not have different bags for work/leisure!
1. No
2. Yes. If I am traveling over rough surfaces, I use my backpack. Else, something with wheels.
1. No, bags do not differ based on season.
2. Yes, I use Codi laptop bag for business travel (I pack light so can fit clothing/flip flops/toiletries for 2 nights in accessory section), and I recently bought a convertible backpack for a vacation to AUS/NZ.
Same bag for all seasons.
Same bag for all missions. Unless it’s a really long or really short trip.
Do you have different bags for different seasons?
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
1.) Actually, I’ve always traveled with my Travelpro luggage. This past weekend, the handle broke! So- same bag for different seasons!
2.) For vacation travel and work, once again I always used my trusted Travelpro carry-on.
This suitcase looks pretty cool!
no and no.
Which is why I need a really good bag.

1) I do not have different bags for different seasons.
2) I do not have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work.
I use the same carry-on bag. Thanks.
1. No. I’m not a “seasons” guy.
2. Yes. I have several sizes of the eBags TLS bags. For a month long vacation to a apt in Paris, for instance, the 29″ bag is the winner. Shorter trips get the 25″ or 21″ bags. I have a Timbuktu 20″ that is great for Intl carry-ons.
I don’t have a different bag for different seasons; however, I do have a different bag for different missions – I have a roll-aboard delsey for weekly travel and a large hard-case for checking scuba gear. It’s nice to have my own gear with me, but it is a pain to travel with it.
I’m debating switching my 2-wheel roll-aboard to a 4-wheeled hard-case simply due to wear and tear (and I check it half the time if I’m going into a quiet airport through a long layover at a busy airport).
Its really nice to have a hard sided Briggs & Riley Bag because they can take the abuse airlines give them and with the color choice, you can find out thats easier to spot.
Do you have different bags for different seasons? No
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Yes For sure as when I travel on vacation it is often a week or more at a time.
1. I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
2. I do have different bags for different missions, 3-4 days I fit in a rolling tote, for 1 week or if I need a suit it’s an 18inch roll-on and for longer than that a 22inch expandable roll-on. I also carry a separate laptop backpack.
I don’t have different bags per season, but I do for work vs personal. For work I use a 20″ Antler bag and usually for personal I usually use a TravelPro Maxlite.
1. Nope. I just one bag pretty exclusively year-round
2. And again, nope. I don’t do as much vacation travel as work travel, sadly…
I’m actually looking for a new bag atm!
1) No, I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
2) Yes, work travel requires a rolling suitcase for professional dress while some holidays, I can usually manage with a duffle.
No and yes.
1) No. The bags are year rounders.
2) Absolutely yes. I have a collection of luggage, with different styles and sizes depending on the “mission”. Work bags have more pockets and carry the work essentials in easy to use fashion. Leisure bags are more about capacity and don’t need all the features of good work bags.
I do not have different bags for the seasons. One bag serves all 4.
I don’t have different luggage for work travel but do pack extra organizational things and suit bags to keep things nice during the trip.
I hope I’m lucky today!
1. I do not have different bags for different seasons.
2. When I go for work, I take my black carry so that it “hides” within the crowds. When I go on personal trips, I take my bright blue one so it’s easy to spot, especially when I have to do gate-side baggage claim.
Don’t have different bags for different seasons, but do for different missions. Tumi for shorter trips or when I need to or want to carry on. A large Briggs and Riley for longer trips. Sometimes just a backpack on a mileage run. Various duffels for overflow when I just have way to much stuff.
1. Nope, no bag for different seasons!
2. Yes, some holidays are short enough to go by with just a duffel…else I bust out the big suitcase!
