Comment Here And You May Win a Briggs & Riley TORQ Bag

I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.

As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).

The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).

It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.

And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.

This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.

  • Do you have different bags for different seasons?
  • Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?

Here are the rules:

  • You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.

  • You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.

  • All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.

  • I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).

  • The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.

  • I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.

Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

  1. 1. I use a larger bag in the winter because winter clothes are bigger.

    2. I don’t travel for work, so I just have one bag for vacation travel.

  2. 1. Same bags for regardless of season

    2. Different bags depending mainly on length of trip, if it’s a weekend, I typically just use a duffle, anything longer than that, I use something bigger.

  3. 1. No. Season doesn’t affect my choice of bag. Purpose of trip does…

    2. …Yes, I use different bags depending on the occasion. For work I try to to travel as light as possible, so go with a Timbuk2 laptop to force myself to take only essential electronics and books; for carry-on an eBags 22 inch pro roller has held up for about 10 years of pretty hard use.

Vacation is another story. I use a couple of Mountainsmith products: a daypack for electronics and essentials, a medium duffle for clothing.

  4. 1. Yep I have a backpack for short summer trips along with my regular all-year roll-aboard.

    2. I don’t have different purpose bags but I do have a bag at home to immediately enclose my travel bag with before coming indoors. I had one incident with bedbugs and one is enough.

  5. 1. Same bag(s) for all seasons.
    2. Same bag(s) for work as for short personal trips (a 20″ carryon). For longer personal trips I use a larger, 24″ suitcase.

  6. 1. Same bags for all seasons
    2. Same bag for all missions

Bag choice for me depends mostly on trip length

  7. 1) I use the same bag for all seasons
    2) I also have the same bag for personal and business travel, though we have a big duffel that we bring for baby stuff when we travel with our 1 year old. He requires a lot of volume!

  8. 1. Same bags for all seasons
    2. Carry on for business travel. Big rollers for travel with the wife- she overpacks

  9. My wife would answer both of these completely differently, but I personally have a “go to” bag that I’ve used for all travel for the past number of years. Creature of habit, perhaps…or maybe I just prefer the overall simplicity.

  10. 1)More like climates – I have a lightweight backpack I take to the tropics, and a larger rolling duffel when I’m taking more gear.

    2) Yes, I use a pretty standard rolling carry-on bag for work.

  11. Thanks for the opportunity Gary! My cheap “Lanza” carry on bag I got from a tourist trap in SFO 9 years ago finally broke on my last trip, so this is perfect timing!

  12. Do you have different bags for different seasons?

    No.

Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?

    I should. If I win, I’ll consider it. =)

  13. – I don’t have a bag for different seasons – what I have has to perform under any conditions!
    – I’m only a leisure traveler, so no business bags for me. My luggage is small, smaller and smallest, for maximum flexibility.
    Thanks for the contest!

  14. 1. Not necessarily different bags for different “seasons”.

    2. But, yes, different choices for different “reasons”. IE: for business tours, prefer a Tumi leather fold-over for wardrobe. Non-business, an expandable soft case for all those extras.

  15. I don’t have different bags for different seasons.

I do have different bags for different missions. I use a black Briggs & Riley bag for work trips. I sometimes use this for vacations as well (especially because it is expandable) but I have a light-weight hard-sided bag by Heys that is bright and fun and great for short weekend leisure trips. I love that the new Briggs and Riley bags combine the best of each!

  16. Do you have different bags for different seasons? Nope, same two bags for all seasons.

Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Not specifically, but I have one small bag (which can carry on) and one large (that can’t) which I’ll use depending on length of stay.

  17. I dont have different bag for different seasons but definitely tend to travel lighter and use a smaller bag for business

  18. No different bags for different seasons. I usually just carry a large coat in the winter.

For work I use my Victornox bag which is a huge carry on. For vacation travel I use my Osprey Sojourner which can fit a lot and be used as a backpack if necessary.

  19. I had the same rollable, material Samsonite from my honeymoon 16 years ago. RIP old friends.

My “new” plastic casing rollable bag and carry- on were destroyed by baggage handlers (thieves) on my return trip from Milan. My extension handle is locked in place.

    A) same bags are used for every trip
    B) I even check-in the carry-on ….. I like to fly “hands free” on board

  20. Definitely not for season and not really for business either- one small carryon usually serves all purposes

  21. 1) No. I use the same generic hand-me-down bags from my wife for every season.
    2) No. I have developed a severe allergic reaction to work since my retirement. Being retired I only travel for the sake of travel since I no longer have weekends or holidays off, nor vacations for that matter. Winning a Briggs & Riley TORO would allow me to travel in style with a bag that will last me a lifetime.

  22. 1. Interesting thought. I suppose you mean the season of the destination. I definitely use bigger bags for Alaska than the Dominican Republic, regardless of the season.

    2. Travel is work, so no real disconnect there.

  23. I do not have different bags for different seasons.

I use different bags depending on the purpose of the trip. Non-business travel with lots of location changes calls for a backpack. Otherwise it’s a regular 22″ roller bag or a larger one for longer trips.

    Thanks Gary!

  24. I do not have different bags

If it’s a weekend trip I just take a backpack. Week long I take a roller.

  25. 1. No
    2. No, but I’m more likely to bring a laptop bag over a backpack as a personal item for a work trip.

  26. 1. Same bags no matter the season.
    2. Do use different bags for airline travel vs. car travel.

  27. I do not have different bags for different seasons. I do, however, use a different combination of bags for different types of trips. Once I travelled on Allegiant to a wedding for three days and only took a purse! Didnt want to pay the pesky cabin baggage or checked baggage fees…..

  28. Different bag for different seasons? Handbag by all means;, suitcase? The vanity ends here..that is a no!
Different bag for different occasion: Absolutely…those MR bring out my compact for the short connect times.

  29. 1. Do you have different bags for different seasons? No.
    2. Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? No.

No to both, that’s why I could use another bag….

  30. No, I do not have a different bag for different seasons. To do so has never occurred to me.

I have 2 go-to bags. One a carry on which I use most of the time. The other is a lightweight hardshell standard size bag for more lengthy travels where I need to pack more than my carry on will accommodate.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  31. 1. I do not have a different bag for different season.

    2. Yes, I sure do have a different bag for different missions. I have a small carry on Desley for business travel. And when I go on vacations, I carry a larger duffle type bag.

    Thanks. Hope I win!

  32. 1. Same bag for all seasons
    2. Yes, different bags for different missions (wouldn’t want to bring a backpack to a board meeting)

  33. 1. I don’t have different bags for seasons, just 1.

    2. I take the same bag on business and vacations.

    Thanks!

  34. 1. Do you have different bags for different seasons? No.
    2. Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Sometimes use different bags, but only out of necessity.

  35. I do not have a different bag for different seasons.

I have a different bag for different trip lengths. A one night bag. A 2-3 night bag. A 4-6 night bag. A 7+ night bag. All with clean undershirts, socks and underwear that are never unpacked.

  36. I don’t have dedicated bags for different seasons, though I suppose I would naturally use a larger bag during the colder months.

I definitely carry different bags depending on the trip – domestic (and short international) work gets a rollaboard. Vacation or extended travel uses a backpack or duffel.

  37. 1. Do you have different bags for different seasons? No

    2. Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Yes, an old school hardside rollaboard with clunker wheels for going on holiday and a ballistic nylon roller with fast inline skate wheels for work.

  38. ■Do you have different bags for different seasons?
No, I do not have a different bag for different seasons.

■Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Yes, usually depending on the amount of things I need. Larger bag for winter, or longer stay. For long-term military travel I use my issued seabag which unfortunately has no wheels.

  39. No. I don’t have different bags for the seasons.

Yes. I have two hace different luggage (sizes) for different type trips.

  40. Same bags for any season, any mission, but:
Only the carry-on for business trips.

  41. No I dont have different bags for different seasons

Yes, everyone kinda should, cuz its just different size bags for different type of trips.

  42. Same bag for each season

Same rollaboard for business and personal, although I sometimes check a larger bag for personal.
