I’m a Briggs & Riley fan, my usual carry on is their Baseline CX bag. They’ve made a splash over the past month with a new bag, and I’ve arranged a giveaway.
As I explained earlier today, I’ll have a different Briggs & Riley bag to give away next week as well (different bags for different reasons, they’ve “got your business and leisure covered” as it were).
The Briggs & Riley TORQ is a departure from just functional offering a stylish hard shell that I think looks great (although it’s extra-reinforced to prevent damage, so functional too).
It has an extra wide wheel base to prevent tipping when overstuffed, and it’s a four wheel spinner for easy transport through the airport.
And it comes with Briggs & Riley’s unrivaled lifetime guarantee.
This time we’re going to try something different. Instead of answering one question, I’m going to ask you to answer two to be eligible to win.
- Do you have different bags for different seasons?
- Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Here are the rules:
- You need to have answered both of those questions in your comment to this blog in order to be entered.
- You may enter up to once per day — and I give you a bit of slack in this, I won’t disqualify any entry as long as you don’t make more than one entry per calendar day or as long as no entry is closer than 24 hours together from another one. And if you’re close, we’re cool. I’m not looking to disqualify people, just to make sure there’s no massive ballot stuffing.
- All entries (comments) must be received no later than Thursday, June 6 at Noon Eastern time.
- I will draw a winner at random in the days following the close of the contest from those that meet these guidelines. Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address when entering to be eligible to win (you do not need to leave an email address in the comments, but along with your name where it asks for your email that email must be ‘real’ or I will have no way of contacting you).
- The winner acknowledges that this is a prize and is not for resale.
- I’m the final arbiter in all matters related to this contest and in all matters of interpretation. There is no appeal. I’m doing this because there’s an opportunity to send out a pretty cool high-end bag, and not taking anything in return, so please don’t give me a hard time in the process.
Any questions? E-mail me. And hopefully the winner will also follow up with me to let me know their impressions of the bag. It looks great!

I don’t have different bags for the seasons nor do I travel for work but I have different bags for different kinds of trips & lengths of trips.
I am devoted to carry on ONLY and equally devoted to Gary to get me wherever I want to go in first class with points ONLY. Both difficult but essential for me to experience sensational travel experiences! Seriously, I’ve done 16 days in Vietnam and 18 days in Bali/Singapore….with Gary making the tickets possible and my 19 inch Tumi making the travel EASY. But, I am open to experiencing the B/R that everyone is talking about. Season, seriously doesn’t matter. If I can’t make it happen in a rollaboard and big pocketbook, I’m not going! Summer months make bulky warm clothes a non issue and space bags and a package of woolite and I’m outta here….that is, if I have Gary’s first class tix!!!
Luggage is NOT a fashion statement to me so NO, I do NOT have different bags for different seasons. And NO, I do NOT have different bags for different kinds/length of trips. My B&R rollaboard is good for ALL seasons and ALL trips.
I do not have different bags for different seasons..
Nevertheless, I do use a different bag depending on the trip!
Fingers Crossed!
-Have a winter bag and rest of the year bag
-“adventure bag” for going on active vacations, and a more formal bag for city trips
1. I use the same suitcases no matter what season it is.
2. I use the same suitcases for work and vacation.
I use one suitcase regardless of the time of year.
I use a smaller carry on for business and a larger case for pleasure.
No and no. Just a boring 2 suitcase guy. Would like to have a new one though.
1. I have the same carry on bag for all my personal travel regardless of season.
2. I don’t travel for business so I use the same bag on all my personal trips.
Thanks!
No different bag for the seasons, and I use the the same luggage for all my travels.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons, but …
I do have different bags for work versus leisure: when I’m flying for work, I normally have nice clothes that I want to protect in a rollaboard or a garment bag. When I’m flying for fun, I’m usually carrying a duffle packed with outdoors gear.
◾Do you have different bags for different seasons?
No.
◾Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Not really. My bag varies by length of trip, which tends to correlate to purpose sometimes.
1. No, I use my Patagonia MLC most of the time.
2. If it’s more than a couple days, I’ll use my Patagonia MLC. If it’s just an overnight, I just go with my Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer.
1. Nope.
2. Nope.
thanks!
Do you have different bags for different seasons? – Nope – one for the entie year!
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? – nope, I want to stay organized, so I bring my work luggage along on vacation.
1. Yup, have different bags depending on the season (mostly dependent on the weather of the destination since I live in SoCal). Warmer clothes means a bigger bag!
2. Definitely. I typically use a garment bag that I can put a suit in for business; I use a duffel bag for pleasure. Though this new suitcase might fit the bill for both!
No
Yes, I have a stackable group for work and spinners for vacation
I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
I have bags that work more for work than for vacation but in general my bags are the same (large and in charge)
No, i dont have different bags for seasons, i dont live in places with serious winter.
Yes i have different bags for different missions: larger and smaller rollaboard for different trip durations, and i prefer a duffel bag for weekend car trips.
Nope, one bag to rule them all, season or reason. I do like the 4 wheel spinners mostly because I’m 6’5″ and the handles on most bags are too short and rolling these bags upright is much better. They are sometimes annoying in that they make much more noise on some airport floors, tiled especially. Thanks!
1) Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, it’s all the same to me.
2) Yes. Vacation always involves the kids and I’d rather check bags than have to deal with carrying kids and a bunch of bags onto the plane – this means it’s usually a larger 25 or 29”. For work domestically I use a 20” Samsonite (which needs replacing) and if I’m traveling internationally I use a 22” Tumi, which I love but is quite heavy when loaded up.
1. I don’t have different bags for different seasons. I guess that matches with my being a Florida girl. We pretty much have just one season (hot! – lol).
2. I don’t have a different bag for business and leisure and that’s mainly because I’m a civil servant. Due to budgetary constraints I don’t get to go to all the great conferences others in the Urban Planning field attend. Ignorance is bliss 🙂 So all my travel bags are leisurely.
No to both. Usually travel with a Delsey rollaboard and a North Face Backpack.
I do not carry different bags for different seasons and I do not use different bags on vacation.
Thank You
Do you have different bags for different seasons? No
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work? Yes, since I’ll often check a bag on vacation but never on business.
1) No
2) Yes!
No and no – one bag for everything!
1. I do tend to use a larger bag in the winter bc it’s hard to fit sweaters and bulkier shoes in a smaller bag.
2. for work, I have a B&R rolling bag with a suiter and for pleasure I use a B&R rolling duffle.
P.S Your local Costco may carry a single model of the Baseline collection, carry on sized for as low as $189.99 but the model varies a bit with the store.
Peace.
I dont have bags for different seasons.
I dont have different bags for work and vacation. My tumi has been handling the job so far but am curious to try Briggs & Riley.
No bag for different seasons.
Not really. I have a Tumi garment bag that I combine with a Halliburton carry-on for most domestic flights and an Eagle Creek for longer hauls.
Really surprised by all the No and No’s… I’m Yes and Yes:
I have a waterproof, hardshell case for the winter/rainy season, and lighter, expandable bag for summer/fall — if you’ve ever had to wait for the bus in a monsoon, at least the clothes in your bag are dry!
For business travel, I visit clients directly, so a small carryon and matching laptop bag for convenient size and classy looks is a must. For my personal trips, I have a backpack with pockets/straps for my camera stuff, and pouches for snacks and water bottles.
I actually never heard of Briggs & Riley until your post; I’ll definitely have to check them out come holiday season for wish list candidacy. Thanks for the review!
I do not have a different bag for the seasons
I do use different bags for varying lengths of trips
1. No, season doesn’t matter, except to the extent that it could impact the amount of gear taken, as per my answer to 2.
2. Yes, if you consider it a mission to carry the minimum needed for the particular trip, and not have it flop around in a mostly empty bag. So, various sized non rollers, and a couple rollers for heavily laden adventure.
I don’t have different bags for different seasons. Neither do I have different bags for work and play.
1) Nope, one bag for all seasons
2) Yes, sometimes I’ll take a larger bag on vacations.
in for luck.
1. No, same bags
2. No, same bags
1) No
2) Not really. I have a large bag used exclusively for longer leisure trips, but for most trips—business or pleasure—I use the same 22″ rollaboard.
1) not different bags for different seasons, but for different missions (i.e. trade show “uniform” typically trousers and polo, business meeting is suit)
2) usually end up packing MORE on vacation (typically a checked bag or sometimes even extra bag due to sports gear, etc)
1) My bags are usually All-season. Traveling from northern to southern hemisphere results in change of season. Hence, all-season works best for me.
2) Yes, I have different bags for work, family vacation, personal time-off.
1. NO. Limited home space for multiple travel bags
2. Don’t travel at all for work. Like to have a flexible bag for all needs
1. No.
2. Kinda. I just have 2 bags. One for trips under 5 nights, then a bigger one with wheels for longer trips. Thanks!
1. I don’t have different bags for different seasons.
2. Bags used vary by length of trip not by type of trip.
I use up my bags before buying another; never had a lifetime guarantee.
1. No
2. Yes, I have a work bag and a travel bag
1. No.
2. No.
I have one carry-on bag for all seasons and all types of trips. I have a great tote from Flight 001 that folds up into a small pouch. I’ll use that if I buy too many new clothes or gifts.
◾Do you have different bags for different seasons?
No
◾Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
Not really, though I do have a travel backpack for any travel where that works easier.
And use carry on bag for shorter trips and check-in usually on international.
I typically travel with the same pack. My trusty Eagle Creek rollerboard has seen 5 continents and continues to serve me well.
Do you have different bags for different seasons?
Yes, if I’m going some place warm, I take a minimal suitcase, sometimes under 20 litres.
Do you have different bags for different missions – such as vacation travel and work?
A definite yes; different bags depending on what country I’m going to and how long I stay.
I have 1 favorite bag (purple Samsonite) for all seasons and use the same bag for all traveling, both business and pleasure.
I have at LEAST two different bags for different seasons!
I also have my go-to work bag, as well as my leisure bag.
