Delta Makes New York Passengers Wait – So Bill de Blasio Can Get Off First

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took Delta flight DL788 back from last night’s debate in Detroit, arriving at New York LaGuardia just after noon.

Passengers on board the Delta Airbus A319 were made to wait in their seats on arrival while the Mayor and his entourage deplaned, because he let the airline know he was in a hurry — to get to a taping of ABC’s The View.

The flight carrying the mayor touched down at noon, but before anyone else could get off, a steward came on the intercom and asked everyone to stay seated because some passengers in the back of the plane — where de Blasio’s staff and security detail were seated — needed to get off right away.

Once the Mayor and his staff had left the aircraft, a flight attendant made an announcement that it was alright for the rest of the passengers to get out of their seats and deplane.

  1. Whilst there is much for which we all must agree to disagree, we can at least all come together in appreciation for what a perfectly horrible human being Bill DeBlasio is. He sucks.

  2. I wonder what would happen to a passenger who refused to comply with this request?

The general “please allow passengers with tight connections to get off first” is often ignored.

  3. I’m a New Yorker and hate DiBlasio as much as anyone. But, is this really sanctionable? Airlines often ask people to stay seated after a delay so passengers with tight connections can get off first. Usually most of those connecting passengers are going nowhere important. While it takes a certain hubris to ask for this, appearing on the View probably was more urgent than what most other passengers were doing. If we late a studio audience potentially larger than the number of passengers on the and might have to wait. Also it takes like 2 minutes. Is this really a big deal?

  4. Really? Appearing on the view is more important than what most other passengers would be doing? That’s not for you or anybody else to decide. What’s important to me may not be important to you. But you did nail it with “hubris”.

On a recent flight six of us need to make a connection with literally just minutes to make it. the flight attendants knew it and no announcement was made. we missed our flight and ended up having to stay in a hotel that night. I can assure you my time is just as precious as this j@#$ offs

  5. The mayor has a reputation for always being late. All of a sudden (this piece of garbage) cares?

  6. Is it really a big deal? Yes, for a few reasons…..

The view is a bunch of blowhard wind bags with ZERO reporting credibility other than hate

Everyone on a flight is going SOMEWHERE and wants to get there without inconvenience

  7. A few years back was flying to Vegas and arrived a few minutes before my friend flying in from another city. He had texted before he took off that John McCain was on his flight. I went over to the gate to wait for my friend and staked out a position in front of the jetway figuring I would get to shake the senator’s hand. As the door opened regular passengers started getting off. I figured he must have been whisked away on the tarmac. Low and behold about 2/3s of the plane emptied out and there comes the senator, carrying his own bag, flying completely solo. Was pretty shocked he had no entourage. Got the handshake after-all.

  8. Is this such a big deal? Maybe there were security considerations? Ever thought of that? And like its been mentioned, airlines ask passengers to stay seated so others can deplane plenty of times. On foreign airlines, coach passengers are held back while those up front deplane all the time.

    Lord get over yourself.

  9. And imagine the story if he and his staff flew in the front cabin?! Like him or not, he’s the mayor of the largest city in the USA, one of the largest in the world and he was voted in by a huge majority so a few million people must like the guy. Such pettiness.

  10. @ dhammer53 There are probably more people in NY who like Malliotakis than those who like DeBlasio. So there was a choice between bad and worse…worse was taken

  11. DL continues to decline their service in favor of a few who sit up front. You hammer AA, but DL economy experience IMO is the worst. These dumb @ss IFE screen that everyone “loves” takes up seat space and most of the under seat storage, plus half the time don’t work. Their wifi is the most expensive and slowest and again is usually broken. Plus DL’s bathroom and seat spacing is just the same as AA and UA.

DL has vocal supporters, but a lot of people avoid them because they are expensive and offer no better product then AA or UA these days. 90% on time, my foot. . .they have the most padded schedule in the industry and will pull away from the gate and sit for an hour to claim leaving on time. STOP the DL LOVE AFFAIR. This article just proves again, they are as bad as the rest.

  12. He seems like a very nice and decent man. Certainly , he has sensible policies. I’m sure no one minded a 20 second delay so that he could reach his appointment on time.

  13. I love how worked up people get with these sort of things, about perks that other passengers don’t enjoy. Reminds me of the utter bonkers that “fast track” security for pax in premium cabins is in the US. You join a separate line that feeds into the general security line. Very non-communist indeed…

  14. Impressed that some of the comments were reasonable…LOL Bill had to get to the View crazy! He should have taken an earlier flight or got a ride on another liberal friends private jet??

  15. “because he let the airline know he was in a hurry — to get to a taping of ABC’s The View”

Whereas most of his business days he lets his beleaguered staff know he’s in a big hurry to take his motorcade to a fitness club in Brooklyn

Dollar Bill is such an endless embarrassment to NYC

  16. While de Blasio seems to have few friends these days (“hey, nobody likes me now — maybe I should run for President”) it is worth noting that DL has enormously important operations in NYC at JFK and LGA. Maybe it’s a good business idea for DL to suck up to him?

  17. The debate ended at 10pm. This clown couldn’t manage to pull himself out of bed any earlier than to make the 10am flight this morning. He could have been on the 7am or the 840am. Lazy POS. Truly awful politician.

  18. I have not flown Delta in years and even though they are expanding their presence in my city; there is another reason not to.

Passengers were in a no win situation you are required to obey the instructions of flight crew.

If I had been on the flight, I would have contacted Delta and got a voucher out of it.

Bill DeBlasio is not deserving of special consideration.
