News and notes from around the interweb:
- In January Delta announced numerous reductions in inflight service they pretended was to benefit the environment (when their new cheaper service is in some cases worse for the environment than their pre-pandemic service). Their ownership of an oil refinery and anti-environment lobbying complicates the narrative further. (HT: Joe Brancatelli)
- 500 free Choice Privileges points for linking account to Bakkt
- Scambaiter calls Rite Aid to warn manager a scam victim is coming to buy gift cards (HT: Paul H)
- Caesars ends the Wyndham status merry-go-round by no longer matching matched status. Hopefully the Wyndham business card’s Diamond status will still be matched since it is not ‘matched status’ as such.
- You think everyone else is living a better life, but really they’re just flying American Airlines coach.
Just saw someone on my flight post a picture of the interior of a private jet to Instagram story with a plane emoji.
We are both sitting in coach on an American Airlines flight.

Another one for the Fleet. This was a *very* good idea, so glad they brought it back! pic.twitter.com/plrAxBJGDw

A classic example of everyone touting a loophole sooooo much that the sponsors get wind and close the loophole. Now, no one benefits from it. Back in December, there was a rash of commenters who accused bloggers of not sharing opportunities — which was incorrect. Bemoaning that they couldn’t get in on deals. I warned that over-promotion would shut opportunities down. And, here we go.
In the past, I had been more than happy to share. But, having seen what’s happened, I’m not inclined to do so any longer. Truly sad.
As someone that earns my Diamond Plus or Diamond Elite status with Caesars from gambling I am really glad this got shut down. Always seemed like a weak, back door way to get Diamond (I mean at least match with top level of major chains – not Wyndham) and increased the number of Diamond members. If nothing else Caesars (with former Eldorado management) will save money by not paying the $100 dinner credit (about only benefit base Diamond gets outside of certain priority lines) for all the matched statuses. Maybe they will now do something for those of us that earn our status.
Cool bag tags! But you’re still flying AA…..
