Eating Plastic On United Airlines [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Hertz is expiring points after 12 months of inactivity with no notice, and even though they say on their website that expiration is 18 months (and also on their website that it’s 24 months).

Could anything be more on-brand for Hertz? During the pandemic they emailed members saying they were pausing expiration, but then sent a follow up to say no they actually weren’t unless you had status with them. Don’t fret though because Hertz points aren’t enough to keep you from getting arrested when you rent from them.

  • Airlines are vying for the right to operate a flight to Tokyo Haneda. Delta is dropping their Portland – Tokyo Haneda service, and the Department of Transportation gets to decide who will be allowed to use the Haneda slot.

American Airlines has asked to fly New York JFK – Tokyo Haneda. I’d love to see it, but their joint venture partner Japan Airlines already operates the route. Similarly, United’s request to fly from Houston duplicates service by its joint venture partner ANA. Delta has not yet made its request to keep the slot and utilize it differently. Delta already has the most U.S. Haneda slots, since they don’t have a Japanese joint venture partner. But if they requested New York or Florida service they’d likely have a leg up.

  • New Maldives-based all-premium airline Beond has shared new details about its product, expected to launch next month. They will use seats like Hawaiian’s old business class; won’t have wifi or seatback entertainment (they’ll offer iPads); and they’ve shifted their plan for a refueling stop in Riyadh to Dubai World airport (DWC).

They’ll ultimately had a more modest product than Emirates or Qatar, and fewer frequencies in many markets. They might, however, be able to undercut price.

  1. Melted plastic is not toxic, you little drama queen. Please share a single case of death by ingested melted plastic from a food container. It is estimated that on average we eat 250 grams of plastic per year…and we won’t even get into how much rat feces, bugs, hair, etc. we eat.

  2. Agree with Mantis; this lavishing of public attention on spoiled, entitled little snowflakes must end. It’s not even like this miserable twat actually ate any actual pieces of plastic. But, if “Abhay” had ingested plastic, it would simply come out the other end. Just like that Tweet.

  3. I heard if we knew how cheese was made we wouldn’t eat it and if we really knew what all was in our food we would starve to death.
