EXTENDED: 100% Bonus Lets You Buy Hilton Points for Just Half a Cent Each

Buy Hilton HHonors Points 100% Bonus

Hilton HHonors was running a bonus on purchased Hilton points through October 21.

But the 100% bonus offer has been extended through October 31. (HT: Frequent Flyer Bonuses)

Hilton usually charges a penny apiece for points, so with this bonus is selling points for half a cent each. That’s tied for the cheapest I’ve ever seen (in June 2015 they offered a 100% bonus on purchased points also, and a few months back they ran 50% off). They’re selling points for just about what they’re worth.

Hilton will let you buy up to 80,000 points per year. With this bonus, an 80,000 point purchase gets you 160,000 points at a price of $0.005 per point. I value Hilton points at $0.004, since I can pretty much always get half a cent in value at least from Hilton points and I have a preference for holding cash.

Conrad New York

You can really stretch Hilton points for their lower-tier redemptions. A category 1 property is 5000 points, with 5th night free for elites, so a 5 night stay averages 4000 points per night or ~$22. (There aren’t many of these in the U.S…)

You won’t get bonus points for paying for purchased Hilton HHonors points with a Hilton co-brand credit card, as the purchase is processed by points.com rather than Hilton.

I’m close to a buyer of Hilton points at half a cent apiece.

  1. If the choice was paying cash for a hotel room at Hilton vs. paying in points at a half cent each, it might make sense to buy these HHonors points. But if the choice is paying a half cent for HHonors points vs. shopping for the best hotel deal in the city you’re visiting, it rarely would make sense to buy the points.
