Hilton Brings Back Status Matches With Reduced Requirements—and 90 Days of Gold Up Front

Hilton has brought back status matches and even reduced the requirements necessary to receive one.

• Receive Gold status for 90 days on approval
  
• Complete 6 paid nights during those 90 days and keep Gold through March 2028
  
• Complete 12 paid nights during those 90 days and keep Diamond through March 2028

When Hilton had most recently offered a status match they required 8 nights for Gold and 14 for Diamond.

You’ll make the request with a screenshot of your current status with an eligible program, and showing a stay with that program in the past 24 months, i.e. you have to have used the status at least once rather than holding it purely based on a match or credit card.

• World of Hyatt
  
• IHG One Rewards
  
• Marriott Bonvoy

They’ll also match against ‘other’ but experiences vary on whether they will match against other programs you might submit.

Gold gets you a modest daily food and beverage credit at hotels in the U.S. but gets complimentary breakfast at many brands abroad. You may receive an upgrade, though assume that means avoiding a room over the HVAC.

Of course, the benefits of Hilton status aren’t nearly as significant as Hyatt status, or even IHG status (or what Marriott promises on paper). And the reduced requirements to earn the status make sense with the change to regular requirements to earn Gold and Diamond that correspond to the introduction of the new Diamond Reserve tier.

I have Hilton Gold from my Amex Platinum. But if you don’t have Hilton status, and you have an upcoming stay, requesting a match could be worthwhile just for the 90 days of status. A full breakfast outside the U.S. alone could be a nice addition to your plans.
